I set cruise control at 72 and watched the MPG go from zero all the way up 16.4, still terrible considering I did not touch the gas or break once.

I just purchased the Cab on Saturday, and will take it to Pioneer, (near work), since they provide free scheduled oil changes, (one of the reasons I purchased from Pioneer).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Today I dropped off my 2000 C2 for a check engine light (second time this month) and things were going along as usual until I noticed a Cayenne key in the drawer at the rental counter. I quickly went over to my customer service rep to see if it was still available and to my luck it was. Here are my thoughts on the Cayenne. Exterior Looks: Personnel preference either you like or you dont. I think it looks pretty good and the brushed metal ascents add a lot. Interior: I was very impressed with the fit and finish as well as the quality parts used inside the vehicle. The instrument cluster is the best I have seen from Porsche only thing I would change is enlarge the digital MPH read out. The rearview mirror looks really cheap and should have been made from something nicer. Driving: After need some time to adjust to the much higher setting position and the Tiptronic I began to enjoy the Porsche experience. It is clear that this SUV is a Porsche it rides great, handles very well and out performs most every other SUV on the road. First gear takes a little while to adjust to and you manually have to engage it otherwise it always starts in second. I pushed it pretty hard and only felt the PSM once. The limited amount of body role was very impressive for something so large and heavy. When I picked up the Cayenne it had 1/8 of a tank which I discovered will not get you very far. I drove to work which about 15 miles, took a friend for a ride 2 miles, went to visit my fiance and gave her boss a ride 4 miles and then stopped at the gas station because it was now on empty. I put 7.5 gallons $15 here in CA. of gas in thinking this would enough to get home and back to the deal, wrong After putting the gas in I made it about 4 miles down the road before the computer said I need fuel. I could not believe it. Now the instrument panel stated the average MPG was on 13.2 so I knew this thing was bad on gas but come on this is terrible. Later in the night I went to visit a friend so I reset the computer to make the drive over to his place 25 miles all highway. I set cruise control at 72 and watched the MPG go from zero all the way up 16.4, still terrible considering I did not touch the gas or break once. After exiting the highway I drove slight more aggressive and watched the average drop back down to 13.8. How could Porsche make such a great SUV yet still only achieve 13.5 MPG average. You drove it using the gas at all I would think you could be in the 10 MPG range. All in all it is a great SUV and if you need the space and have the money the Cayenne would have to be high on your list. One last thing the key and remote look like a car with headlights, I can not believe Porsche would do something so bad. -Matthew

POST 2Original post

"How could Porsche make such a great SUV yet still only achieve 13.5 MPG average." it's all in the pork it carries. my wife and i were wholly unmoved by anything about the cayenne with the exception of its miraculous turning radius.

POST 3Original post

Did you drop off your car at around 7:30AM yesterday while the construction was going on above the service drive in area? If it was you, nice car. I recall an aero kit with wing?. I pulled up right behind you in my new '03 silver/black cab, dopped off to get a small scratch repaired. I had my other car at the dealer from when I purchased the car on Sat, so I did'nt need a loaner. Now I know to at least ask for a Cayenne. Or maybe I should ask for the keys to that GT2 sitting in the showroom??? Akira

POST 4Original post

where do you two go - hoehn or pioneer - for service?

POST 5Original post

I think that using the Cayenne as a loaner is making converts of a lot of people. I went back to back with the MB ML and the Cayenne as a loaner. Cayenne was out when I first brought my car in, and it was eithet a Jag or the ML. Several days later, due to a part that was supposed to have been delivered but wasn't , my car was undriveable, and I got the Cayenne. Talk about PORK, that ML was a heavyweight with the muscles of a wimp. I was flooring it most of the time to get it to do anything halfway decent.

POST 6Original post

I just purchased the Cab on Saturday, and will take it to Pioneer, (near work), since they provide free scheduled oil changes, (one of the reasons I purchased from Pioneer). In the past, purchased from Hoehn, ('98 Boxster), but ended up taking it to Pioneer.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Akira, That was me at 7:30 under the construction....I was not pleased about that but getting the Cayenne helped. I have had nothing but great srevice at Pioneer. Maybe we should have a San Diego Rennlist get to gether some day. -Matthew

POST 8Original post

Hi Matthew, Thanks for the message. It does sound as though you have visited the service dept. more than you would like though! That damn check engine light. I had the same problem with my '98 Boxster 5 years ago. As you said in your original post, the tip has some getting used to, (only reason for it in my new car is so the wife is able to drive it!!!). Looking forward to hooking up. Akira

POST 9Original post

I took my car in for service two weeks ago and got the standard Enterprise rental car. In my case it was a 2002 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck. Not bad since I needed to clean out the garage anyway. Before you jump full bore to the Cayenne go check out the Infniti FX45. Preice/Performance it will top the Cayenne in all categories.. I prefer driving mine to that of my 996.

POST 10Original post

Did I read you right? You prefer FX45 over the 996? Get your head checked ASAP!!!!

POST 11Original post

The 996 Cab is a great road car and can't be beat in open air. But, the FX45 drives like a torque fed sports car with excellent road feel. So my head says.....have both!!!

POST 12Original post

Matthew, Picked up my car at Pioneer last night and they were still diligently working on yours at 9:20pm. Sorry to see that it's taking them so long. Akira

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Akira, I normally call several times to see how things are going, that is of course when I have a Hertz rental car. I figure I am having fun with the Cayenne why rush them. I have not heard from them yet I hope it is nothing serious the last time this happened (a few weeks ago) they told me the oil cape was loose. Enjoy your 03, Cab the weather has been great for one. -Matthew
