Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The anti-theft alarm on my recently purchased '99 996 makes no sound when I tested it yesterday. The owner's manual says I should here the alarm too. Anyone know where the actual alarm horn is located so I can see if it was just unplugged or is defective and needs replacement? The rest of the anti-theft alarm works as described in the owners manual (i.e., I can "trip" it by opening any door or either hood and the parking lights and interior lights flash for 5 minutes.) P.S. I LOVE this car! It's amazing!! Thanks, Mark

POST 2Original post

It is next to the battery on the drivers side. Round silver metal with 2 wires going to it. My friend bought a used Boxster and when he set off the alarm the lights would flash but the horn would not beep. I put my volt meter on the 2 wires to the horn and it was getting power when the alarm went off. He bought a new alarm horn and when I put it in it worked fine. Jeff

POST 4Original post

Nice to hear you'll like the car Mark : ). Well mine doesn't beep when arming is it suppose to do that? Thought it just arms silently with 2 liteflash for armed and 1 flash for disarm. When I had the B&M shifter installed in the mechanic broke the sensor to the center glovebox and when I tried arming it it would beep but car wouldn't arm itself. Regards. Mike

Kirby, If you mean alarm horn -- yes, same horn same location.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tool Pants, Thanks for the info and the great photo. I'll break out my volt meter and test it. 996FLT6, My understanding from the owners manual is that it doesn't beep when you arm the system unless you press the key fob twice quickly (to engage alarm, but disengage the internal motion sensor); then the regular car horn honks once quickly. Loren or Tool Pants, feel free to correct me if I'm giving bad intel on this. Mark
