Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I installed the Pirellis on my BMW 745Li last winter, and, while obviously a huge improvement over summer tires, they were pretty average in the snow.

The tread pattern has changed quiet a bit from the LM-22's.

Bought the Pireelli 240's......M3s are out and rims also limited......used M3s on a BMW last winter and they were great.......the Pirelli's will be an experiment.....the Pirellis I have had in the past have worn out quickly....oh well......supply and demand.......putting snows on in a couple weeks...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just found out that the latest shipment of Dunlop M3 Winter Sports lacked the necessary DOT numbers stamped on the sidewalls, and thus cannot be used in the U.S. For this reason, there is apparently a shortage of these tires, and new tires are not expected to be available until after this winter season.
I have been offered Pirelli WinterSport 240s as a replacement, and was told that they are as good, if not better, than the M3s. Has anyone had experience with both? Any opinion on the Pirellis?
I can confirm this as I have tried Tirerack a couple times and I recently recieved this from Wheel Enhancements upon inquiry.
"Unfortunately, the Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2 and M3 tires are no longer available in this size combination and the same speed rating for both the front and rear tires, sorry."
What do people think of the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22's?
Thanks
CJ
I found this out yesterday also. The fronts are what are out of stock. According to Tirerack they are suppose to recieve a shipment of H rated M3's that will fit the front but only V rated tires are available for the rears (however the availability of the shipment is called into question considering the first post).
It seems the Blizzak LM-25 is the only tire currently in abundance (Blizzak LM-22's are not available according to Tirerack). However, I have been unable to find out much information with regard to this tire because it is new this year. The tread pattern has changed quiet a bit from the LM-22's.

Ca;;ed them yesterday and they are out of Dunlop Winteraports for all applications...I guess the word is out on M3s.....the reps told me that I could expect better dry traction with Pirellis and less effective snow traction versus 240's.....we will see.....

Do you have any additional info regarding the 240s? I am trying to decide whether to buy them on the new rims I plan to buy anyway, or whether to just forego winter tires this year altogether. Any additional advice would be very welcome. I almost think it would be better to buy the rims with tires just to protect the rims.

P.S. Thanks to everyone who has been providing additional information.
I too had the Dunlop M3s on order at Tirerack, but was told there would be a delay. I installed the Pirellis on my BMW 745Li last winter, and, while obviously a huge improvement over summer tires, they were pretty average in the snow. Most BMW posters on the message board loved the Dunlops. I decided to pay the rather large premium for the Bizzak LM25s and installed them on my '04 C4S cab last week. So far they are terrific in the dry, but I won't be able to evaluate their true performance until we get some snow and ice.
