Nope, Evo has been promising ("beginning of the year", "first quarter", "this summer") ever since I had mine installed over a year ago!

Suggestion · Original poster

David, I have a feeling that most smog test mechanics have not seen a Porsche engine before, and that most of those that have, will pass the car with a wink and and a nudge.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have the problems been resolved in regard to supercharging and passing the CA emisions test? I am seriously considering an EVO supercharger but want to know if I will run afoul of DMV come registration time.

POST 2Original post

You need to check with EVO and ask if their kit has been given a CARB sticker. If not, then the car technically will not pass emmissions....it may pass the tests but will not (should not?) pass the visual test unless the testor either looks the other way or has never seen a Porsche motor before. I was previously looking at the TPC kit for my 993 and the only thing that prevented me from moving forward was that they never got CARB approval (despite saying it was in their plans when they first released the kit).

POST 3Original post

Nope, Evo has been promising ("beginning of the year", "first quarter", "this summer") ever since I had mine installed over a year ago! Don't count on it. As long as they are able too sell illegal SCs into CA, I don't see them investing the time and trouble to keep their word.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

David, I have a feeling that most smog test mechanics have not seen a Porsche engine before, and that most of those that have, will pass the car with a wink and and a nudge. Ben, tou're right, as long as they are able to sell, why would they bother with the legalities? Did you smog your car since installing the SC?

POST 5Original post

Nope, because it won't pass the visual inspection (can't get past that to see if it passes the physical one) given the SC missing the required EO number. Are there any legitimate tuners out there who have produced legal SCs for the 996?
