I agree with Carrera Mike, those tires are fitted backward but the problem will be solved by swapping the wheels side (L2R&R2L) and no need to shift any tires.

I run a "donations only" board for aircraft and those that contribute to it regularly and often (in words) are what keep it informative, alive and keep others coming back - often.

If you just changed the size of the rear for wider tires, your car will understeer more than what it already does.

I'd never knock you if you wanted to run rims that stick out 1 foot past the well since spacer, tires, etc, are all a personal thing.

As for the cost of running a site like this, as I said before, I don't know of a single other forum that charges for membership.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

All I can say is WOW, these tires have the most aggressive tread I have ever seen. They look so dam huge, they put a smile on my face just looking at them. My wife keeps saying, "Are they going to fit" YEA ! 285/30/18. See for yourself. Now if they only hold up like they look, it will be great.
Soooo cool!!!!
They looked so cool on the s4. Please let me know what you think. I seem to remember the tires needing a couple 100 miles to "break in". One of the coolest parts is driving in the rain, these tires are amazing in the wet. ( they are good in the dry as well!)
Yes, they will fit on an 02 C2 - Tirerack had them for 899 for the set of four. I will advise all of my progress with them. They will be mounted today. Apparently road noise is not a problem with them, or so I am told. We shall see.
With a certain number of posts, one would realize the benefits gained from those posts and pony up a mere 17 bucks to help the site keep going. Cheers.
I used to visit this forum all the time and provide a lot of useful advice to members (both paying and non-paying), but EVERY TIME I come here there's another paying member criticizing non-paying members.
The owner of rennlist.com has posted on this subject before and said that he doesn't expect everyone to pay, so why don't people listen to what he says? THAT'S WHY IT'S OPTIONAL. There's a good group of members here, but unfortunately a few bad apples have to spoil the bunch. Once again, I'm off to other forums for a while where I don't have to deal with people like this...
Sorry for the OT on the topic of this thread, btw.
RJMDAD996,
Those tires have a really interesting tread pattern. I'd love to hear how they perform. I'll be over on flat-6.net and 6speedonline.com if you want to post your results on one of those forums.
Can't we all get along? Let's just say that all activity on the board promotes purchase of P-cars and related goods, which improves the economy, which sells more P-cars, which drives more people to the board, which improves the overall number of paying members, as there is a fixed probability of anyone who participates paying. OK? :-)
Anyone have a used Laffer Curve?
I guess I am comparing this board with the 993 board. Rarely did I ever come across any non paying member, much less one with 100,200,300+ posts. In my short time here, I have seen many. I guess maybe I am being unreasonable as my standards have been set high by other boards. Flame away, but this is in no way a negative reflection on the 996 board as a whole nor its paying members, only its non paying ones, which seem to be many, on the forum.
What keeps any board ALIVE are relevant, on-topic posts (not withstanding the actual site with, of course its associated costs). The more relevant, on-topic posts - the better the board. I run a "donations only" board for aircraft and those that contribute to it regularly and often (in words) are what keep it informative, alive and keep others coming back - often. Personally, I NEVER have looked to see if those folks are the ones who have contributed $. They ALL contribute to keeping the board alive - period.
All of that said, I haven't contributed $ ---- yet!
BTW -- those are awesome looking treads. I too would be curious about your overall impression after running for a while. I look forward to reading/seeing it HERE. Thanks for the post and the picture.
You can put me in the same boat. I will become a paying member when I'm convinced this is the board I want to contribute to. I'm looking for my first P car and am gaining a lot of help from the great members and nonmembers here. I'm sorry if you think nonpaying members are stealing from the board. Its not a lot of money, just dont want to be a member of every board I read.
Not trying to flame you I'm just expressing my opinion.
I agree. it is absurd Midnight Rider.....but in ALL societies there will always be that minority group that doesn't contribute that is suported by the generosity of the majority.
I too was one of those non-paying members for a few hundred posts and would get really tired of all the "so...x number of posts and not a member yet" cracks or the "you not entitled to post that type of criticism until you are paying member".............then I joined.
2 things got my cheap, mooching a** to contribute financially to the board. 1) I realized that not only have I given a lot of help to others on this board, I have also received a TON of help in return. and, 2) I researched what it costs to run a site like this and there is no way Jon and Jenn are becoming millionares by doing this. In fact, they may be losing money on the deal.
And if nothing........those of you that have not contributed, think of that last purchase you made BECASUE of the advice you got HERE on this board that allowed you to get it for "x" dollars cheaper. I have saved so much over the last couple years (thousands of dollars) getting tips from other members where to purchase, price to pay, etc.
But, remember, those that don't contribute probably AREN'T going to.....so instead of getting chapped everytime they post just don't offer them any advice.
For me, I just spend so much time on this godforsaken board that I wanted to help keep it alive anyway I could... I've received a lot of good advice (both Porsche related and non-Porsche related) and I spend more money per day at Starbucks then the cost of a yearly membership.
Looks like wet season tires designed primarily for wet surfaces, some serious grrooves to channel water. Do you drive a lot in the rain? Be careful pushing those tires on dry surfaces.
This is what they (BF Goodrich) say about their tire:
"This basic tread design technology is shared with the g-Force T/A radial racing rain tires used in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Trans Am Series."
They look great, however the tire noise is loud, the wheel expert told me it could take 200 miles until the first layer is broken in. I dam sure how so. As for as looks and performance good - AWESOME, they corner very well and provide great off line traction. See for yourself.
RJMDAD- Pay your dues, karma will quiet the tires down......
And no, he is not using spacers, I know those wheels, and they are the completely wrong offset for the car, that wheel is for a turbo or widebody, (or lawn tractor). How do I know? I have done the dance with these BSA wheels as well.
Also - They are NOT BSA wheels - I purchased them in Italy last year at a Porsche aftermarket shop RUF - Not sure on the manufacture. But the offset is correct, I had my local dealership confirm.
Wow! Those tires look huge on the car. I know somebody already commented on the width of the tires/rims and spacers. You said no spacers.....but what is the wheel width and offset you are running? They should be stamped on the wheel. If they confirmed that it is correct then they must have been reading for WIDE body car by mistake b/c those just don't look correct. Not saying it looks bad, just that it doesn't look correct. I'd never knock you if you wanted to run rims that stick out 1 foot past the well since spacer, tires, etc, are all a personal thing. Now, performance is a whole 'nother animal.
RJMDad996,
I could tell by the grooves that they have rotation direction, and looking at your tire intalled, right rear shown on the picture you attached,
the rotational direction IS BACKWARDS to channel the water outboard of the tires.
Well, I bow down to you my gods.
I'm sorry I'm such a horrible person and I humbly ask for your forgiveness!
Search my posts and you'll see that for the most part all I post is useful information to help people with questions. Often, I have information that nobody else has posted. I don't use any service of this board other than posting, so why would I pay for that when there's no other board I've ever heard of on the entire WWW that charges for membership just to post?
And as I posted before, Jon and Jenn DO NOT REQUIRE PEOPLE TO PAY AND JON HAS POSTED THAT HE DOES NOT EXPECT ALL MEMBERS TO PAY AND IS HAPPY TO HAVE NON-PAYING MEMBERS ON THE BOARD. So get off your high horses guys, seriously. I'm not one to flame people, but come on. This is the key to whether people need to be paying members or not, and you have no response to this because there is none.
As for the cost of running a site like this, as I said before, I don't know of a single other forum that charges for membership. Plus I work in internet consulting for a living and I know exactly how much it costs. There's no way this site is hurting for money, and the support of one single sponsor could pay the costs of running this board for a year.
Talk about understeer....
How about the fronts? Are they also wider? If you just changed the size of the rear for wider tires, your car will understeer more than what it already does.
Interesting thread pattern, they should be great for the wet stuff and should keep the tire temperture down, which is great for thread life, but not so good for traction on the dry.
Keep us posted on your findings...
Mike - I disagree. I believe they are mounted correctly. In his second pic, the rain channels on both tires are like this \ | / which is the back of the tire. If you were to roll the car backwards 1/4 rotation, those same groves would look like this as they contacted the pavement / | \ which means that the water will be channeled away from the center to the edges of the tires.
If these pics had been taken from the front of the car and the tread pattern was identical to the current (read view) pics, then they would be mounted backwards.
I agree with Carrera Mike, those tires are fitted backward but the problem will be solved by swapping the wheels side (L2R&R2L) and no need to shift any tires.
Ciao,
Johannes E.
well if they are directional typically on the sidewall there is an arrow denoting which way they go. Further than can be worse yet like my kd's where there is an inside and outside which is also noted which on the sidewall in print. I had a set mounted inside out and caught it in about 50 miles. It handled terribly.
Gota, Sorry man, but I look and stared on those tires from that picture he posted, if the car is moving forward, the outboard grooves will touch the ground first before the inner grooves which will channel the water into the middle of the tire
and will definitely cause hydroplaning(at high speed of course). I bet that if he still has them installed like that, the car is dancing all over the place(unstable).
Mike - I think you might be right! I went back and looked at the PICs again and what helped clear it up for me was the PIC on page 1 where he is measuring the width of the tire. If the top of that PIC were the front of the car, then rolling the tire forward (toward the top of the PIC) would allow the tip of the "V" channel (actually like this "^" in the PIC) to be the first to touch the pavement. Then the water would work its way back to the "ends" of the "V". If this is correct, then the point of the "V" channel should be pointing UP on the rear of the tire. In the PICs of the tires on the car (taken from the rear), the "Vs are pointing DOWN. My BAD!!
Good catch, Mike!!
Now, the only question that remains is Is this how the channels on these tires were designed to work? If so, then they are mounted INCORRECTLY. If not, then I am totally confused!!
I agree with most that you don't have them on correctly. The tread pattern is rotating in the wrong direction.......unless of course you drive in reverse al the time (sorry...couldn't resist).
Is there a directional rotation arrow on the tire?
Just took this from the write-up on the tire:
"lateral grooves form a directional tread design to speed water evacuation, improve wet traction and reduce the risk of hydroplaning."
I just looked at one (a picture only) and saw the arrow that shows directionality which is opposite to how you have them installed.
Hate to see the tire casue you to hydroplane (grooves now chanelling water to the inside of the tire) when it rains b/c they are on wrong.
So, I found this pic on another site, and thought you might want to see it. Also, I had these on my old car.
agh! picture poster sucks! Here is the link.

At the end of the day, they appear to be on backwards.
Indeed thay are on backwards.
Go to this link at Tire Rack for a super size picture of the tire.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/BigPic...cleSearch=true
Scroll to the bottom of the page where you can see the lower section of the sidewall, and slightly offset to the right you can see the big arrow displaying spin orientation.
My advice, get this rectified before the crap hits the fan. You've got a double wammy here: not "N" rated and not properly oriented. Otherwise they look extra cool!
