Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I haven't driven the car in a few days. Amazing what you forget. The car handles like a housefly! GAWD, I can't sell this thing...!!! I've got some thinking to do. Anybody know how much it is for a welded sunroof? Chad

POST 2Original post

See there was a reason you bought that car in the first place..NICE I am glad your not switching teams...LOL

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is killin me. AARrrrrrgh!!! C.

POST 5Original post

One thing, might remove the headliner and modify the underlying supports to accomadate your helmet, then re-install it later. Another thought is a low profile helmet like some of the WOO spint cars use, they are not as bulky and round as typical helmets($$), they are designed to fit a cramped drivers space. Chris

POST 6Original post

Chad, my 2 worth: 1. Don't give up what you love because you are having a baby. You'll resent it. You may have to spend less time at it, but the time investment varies. Keep the car. 2. Used cars of the family variety are dirt cheap now, especially SUV's. Late model used ones go for 15k to 18k. Get one, park it in the elements, and turn it over (not literally) when it starts to sag. 3. I really think you should go to an SCCA road race. Go around, talk to people in the pits, see what they are running and how much their expenses are. A dedicated race car does not have to be a Porsche and you really can have a lot of fun actually racing.

POST 7Original post

To the Surgeons point about helmet size. I have an Arai. I tried on several helmets in my car and it was the only one that came close to fitting. I know you still need to find a few more inch's, but its a start. If you are going to modify your roof, I think you should go with a carbon fiber job, sort of like the Euro version of the M3. Higher roof line and lower center of gravity!!!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You all make great points. But there are some other reasons for the possible sale. Fitment. I am having a tough time with it. Simple as that. I am close, real close. I am just not sure how far to take it. My house. Yep..we need to put the deck on our new house. If I sell the 996, I will have left over $$. Enough to get the materials and "git er done." Mind you....the deck will be huge. My little girl. After the first go around, I cannot tell you how much joy is welling up inside of me. With that in mind, I would drop this car in a second for her. No question. 944 Turbo S (track car). My wife knows how much I like thr track time. And...she has promised me that if I want this car next spring I can have it. The fact is, I know I fit in this car. And...if I ball it up on the track...it's a $10K track car whacking the wall versus a $40K beautiful 911 smacking the wall. Simply put...I am merely trying to do the right thing. And...It's just a car after all. Thanks for the input guys. You guys are great. C.

POST 9Original post

Chad - Keep the car! Think "miles 'o smiles" -

POST 10Original post

Hang in there Chad! Lee makes some great points and as many others have pointed out in other threads - KIDS LOVE PORSCHES!!!! My 3yo always wants to go places in Daddy's "Fast Car".

POST 11Original post

Chad- If you keep driving her than its going to make it tough on you to sell her since there is no substitute. Dont worry about it too much though, things like this have a way of working itself out...

POST 12Original post

Chad: Hang in there my friend... Your emotions are high right now. Especially with the little one on the way... To put it bluntly, from my experience the first 3 months with a newborn pretty much suck... in terms of sleep deprivation, emotion cocktails, non-stop crying & diaper changing... you pretty much feel like a zombie all day long. And your life changes like you won't believe. Trust me it is all good and well worth it. But somehow you'll need a quick escape to a clear mind oasis, and something that reminds you that you're still yourself and a cool dude... That oasis will come to you driving your P-car for quick escapes on backroads/tracks/getting diapers. You and your wife are pretty much in the "nesting" phase, which it's certainly important, but must keep an eye for the time after the "hatching". Bliss comes at around 6 months after birth, until teeth start to come out, then it is sleep deprivation all over again (not as bad as before though)... So here again you'll need your P-car to take you to your "mind oasis". Then the little girl will want to spend more and more time with daddy... and what a better thing than to share cool family time with the wife and little girl than in a nice ride in daddy's P-car. The 911 is the best family car! Get the deck later and keep the car!

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You guys are great. You really are. But sheesh...you are not helping. Chad

POST 14Original post

I'll help.........THERE IS NO WAY YOU'RE GOING TO DO ANYTHING BUT LOSE A WHOLE BUNCH OF MONEY, AND THE CAR YOU LOVE, IF YOU MAKE A CHANGE.....PERIOD. You're talking to the chief maniac when it comes to changing cars.....my father-in-law, who's not sitting too flush right now, embarrassed me by telling me I'd bought and sold 27 cars since I met his daughter on April 4, 1997.......so I know about losing some, losing a little more, and losing a lot......if you cash in to build your deck, you'll have the most expensive deck in Missouri, that's for sure....and a few months down the road, you'll be kicking yourself, and buying another PCar, and you'll be further upside down. Been there, done that, and feeling rediculous for it. Sit tight, and stop thinking about it......you'll thank me.

POST 15Original post

I will jump in here and tell you that when I gave up my 993 Targa (needed to cut back for a while) and was Porsche-less for 18 months, it was a miserable time, and it ended up costing me a bunch of $$ in the long run. Our cars are kid friendly, and my 3 y/o daughter loves to ride in Daddy's car - she's been on two rennlist rumbles already! You probably already know that, but seriously, if I were you I would try to do some recalculating and somehow find a way to keep it - you are going to miss it big time, it will eat at you, and you'll end up getting a replacement sooner rather than later, and spending a bunch of dough doing it. In any event, good luck with car decisions, and good luck with your daughter!

POST 16Original post

I just went for a quick 15 min ride (been 4 days).. I cant tell you the visceral sense one gets. Drove up to the highway zipped it up to 80 then cooled her off on some backroads on the way home. Truly satisfying and leaves me with a smile ALL THE TIME!!!! As much as I have the 1 yr itch I cant see another vehicle affecting this much Mike

POST 17Original post

Had a nice ride home tonight, saw 12 911's (2 cab996, 2TT 996, 3 C4S996, 1 993 C4S, 3 C2 996, 1 997), plus a whole bunch of chicksters.
