Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No sure about the rest of you guys, but It really bugs me when I see another 996/993 driver and I give him the flash or wave hello, considering we share a common elite bond (owning a 911, the benchmark of Sport Cars) and they act as If I am not there. HELLO A-HOLE I am just being nice. Most of the time I get a thumbs up and a flash back. But every now and then, I get a *** who acts as if he is too dam good. How do you guys feel about that ? Or Have I been in NYC too Long I am starting to lose it ?

POST 2Original post

...assuming the driver DID see you then it's pretty darn rude from his/her part. ..but then again it seems more and more road rage, fights and incidents are happening on the roads these days. WHAT'S THE IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE THESE DAYS.

POST 3Original post

I have to agree with you on this one. Perhaps it has something to do with the NYC attitude. I have passed close to a dozen 911s (mostly high end turbo or C4S) on my way into Manhattan in the past few months, and I get nothing but blank stares when I wave or flash my lights. In Europe, I always got reciprocal waves etc. from other P-car owners. At this point I just won't acknowledge these people anymore, because I feel like a jerk....

POST 4Original post

Same here some guys are too nce and others cant appreciate a freakin wave hello--i guess its that hard to move ur hand Mike

POST 5Original post

Well, if you pass me, I will wave!!! That is, if I can put down my cell phone and shift while doing so. I will concure, its not a friendly place to own a car.

POST 6Original post

I wave or flash everyone in a Pcar. 944, 951, 924, 911, 912, 964, 993 doesn't matter. I do agree about not getting a nod back. Some people just don't know or care about traditions. Chad

POST 7Original post

I have noticed the same thing on many occasions. Just yesterday on the NJ Turnpike I saw a beautiful white 993 Cab...I raced to pull up next to it to give a thumbs up and the guy just gave a blank look and continued driving. I was pretty insulted considering I was just trying to show my appreciation for his car but that seems to be the way it goes. It won't stop me though...I will keep waving, honking, and giving the thumbs up!

POST 8Original post

I get this a lot in the harley community. The younger the rider the less cool he is. It's all about him. Here I get a reciprocal nod or wave 75% of the time. I think that is from people being to cool to wave or yeah I'm in a 911 no big deal It's just a car. Then there are those that are just pissed off at the world and won't spread the motolove

POST 9Original post

Personally I think you're overreacting a little. Not everyone is that into being a Pcar owner. Some people are preoccupied thinking about their job, their divorce or whatever. Sometimes they are on the phone or their reaction to someone waving is slow beause they are not used to it. There have been times when someone waved to me and I was just to slow or busy to wave back. Remember: Don't criticize someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes. Then you are a mile away and have their shoes.

POST 10Original post

Yesterday was such a nice day here, I saw 13 911's on the way home. I gave a wave to most of them, got 3 responses. I noticed the more high end the car, the colder the driver. One guy in a black turbo S was a real a-hole. F u buddy. I think it's a east coast/arrogant p-car owner phenomena. Thank god I'm from Kansas, just hope my kids don't end up like that.

POST 11Original post

...speaking of Harley's...use to get a lot of the one finger salute from them when I waved from my Japanese Sports Bike...would getting a Ducati change that ???

POST 12Original post

Thank god I'm from Kansas, just hope my kids don't end up like that. i haven't had anyone flash their lights since i bought a new bimmer in the early '80s. there are too many high-end cars in my neck of the woods, you'd look like a retard if you waved to everyone of them. they'd only wave back thinking they knew you.

POST 13Original post

I agree - I see this thread on Harley boards too. This is absurd - "hey F U buddy your an A hole cause I'm a nice guy and waved and you didn't wave back. Geeez - get over it. Maybe the person in the P-Car next to you is engrossed in the incredible driving experience in their own space and time and ... - well, you get the idea. Now, can't we all just get along? Dan

POST 14Original post

This is an old issue and seems to be common to most specific car forums... (My M roadster days...). My perception is that people who don't wave are people that are not really into cars they just want the prestige that comes with Porsche ownership. Said that I presume that they're driving a P-car with the same enthusiasm they would drive a top of the range Merc or an M5!!!

POST 16Original post

Those are probably the people that bought the car b/c of the status symbol of wealth it gives them not the passion for the car that we all have. The only waves I get back (most of the time) are the guys I recognize from the local PCA chapter!

POST 17Original post

Now, now. there's no need to make derogatory comments about marginalized groups in order to make your point.

POST 18Original post

Having had both a 993 and 996, here is the deal. The majority of 993 and earlier pcars will wave at each other. They will not wave at 996s as they feel them to be not true porsches, due to the body style, water cooled, etc etc etc. Further to that point, I have experienced that most folks who drive 996s are not passionate about their cars as the older model guys are. That being said WE on this board are passionate about our 996s but most are not. I have had my 996 about three months now and out on the road, there is no bond with 996 folks (waving, flashing, etc) as there was when I had my 993. These are my personal experiences, No flaming on me please, I am just the messenger.

POST 19Original post

Try using quotes or something....have no idea who or what you are referring to.

POST 20Original post

It is also a West Coast thing... Like the Surgeon said... the higher end the P-car the colder the driver tends to be... Honestly who in this board actually waves at dudes in Cayennes and Boxsters... Is there a need to do that? (just kidding)

POST 22Original post

I've never seen one wave in NYC with the 996...

POST 23Original post

I always wave/flash except when I can't remove my hands from the wheel due to high cornering loads.

POST 24Original post

There are so many Porsches in the Washington, D.C. area that I find myself only waving to other 911 (997, 996, 993, etc.) drivers. 993 drivers almost always wave back, 996 drivers wave back most of the time, 997 drivers usually don't. Oh yeah, 356 drivers are usually waving at me before I get a chance to wave -- they're quick.

POST 25Original post

They're too busy fiddling with the chrono gizmo thingie

POST 26Original post

I think you need to calm down and put more of your effort towards things that really count. You "name calling" is rude btw.

POST 27Original post

I will only wave if the other person makes eye contact. Sometimes someone waves and I'm talking on phone or to my passenger. Other times, I simply can't respond quick enough since the other car is going the other direction. Honestly, give it up or deal with the fact that you won't get positive feedback all the time. it's like hitting on a girl

POST 28Original post

Quote: "My perception is that people who don't wave are people that are not really into cars they just want the prestige that comes with Porsche ownership. " Totally true here in So. Calif. Waaay too many wannabees that lease a P-car, Merc., BMW, or big black Escalade, Denali, with BIG chrome wheels...I went to the local Merc dealer to drop off my Mom's car this morning for service, what a scene that was!! You can wait in the "guest" lounge and get everything from a Starbucks, charge your I-pod, cell phone, laptop, get a shoe shine, neck massage, nails done, what a joke....

POST 29Original post

...all of this reminds me of the old joke...."What's the difference between a Porsche and a porcupine?"

POST 30Original post

<Flame suit on> Depends on the surroundings me thinks. Having lived both in the 'burbs and downtown, I know I have toned down giving the thumbs up a lot. Reason? In the 'burb I was in, you hardly ever saw a 911. Even the commute to work followed a different path where seeing p-car, though not rare, was certainly different. Now, compare that to living downtown where there are probably 10 911s in my building alone and bazillion more to/back from work. How much thumbs-upping am I gonna do? That said, I usually do thumbs-up when I see a really cool 911, where cool could be anything that sets it apart from the multitudes I come across every day. <Flame suit off>

POST 31Original post

Total mis-perception. I'll quote W.C. Fields "I wouldn't want to belong to any club that will have me". (or close anyways) So - for EVERYONE on this board who I may encounter on the road in the future here is a BIG

POST 32Original post

I'll wave to any P- car pilot. I only draw the line with sociopathic dwarfs.....they just **** me off. That combo plater of short and self centered...Aghhhhhh!!!

POST 33Original post

Not here in Milwaukee... although I have encountered a few friendly, enthusiastic Harley riders (that love all bikes and just happen to prefer a Harley) they are extremely few and far between - you'll get an equal amount of attitude regardless of non-Harley make: Honda, Ducati, BMW, etc. As a side note... this was posted quite some time ago to the milvin (Milwaukee Vintage Moto) board... a very funny tale... best, t

POST 34Original post

I agree. On any given "decent weather" weekend I can see at least 15 911s while driving in the North Shore. Usually I give a flash or wave when I can. I wave when I am right next to them at a light I never wave to Cayenne owners (sorry guys) but I usually see soccer moms driving them who would think that I am some crazy.

POST 35Original post

excuse me? a *** ? sounds like YOU are the A-HOLE.

POST 36Original post

It seems like most 996 and boxster owners are not true enthusiast but just newcomers to the porsche brotherhood. I get waves all the time with earlier porsche owners but with the newer models drivers, I get this dumb stare' ..hahaha.

POST 37Original post

A question I can answer! "No, riding a Duc does not change that reaction."

POST 38Original post

"It seems like most 996 and boxster owners are not true enthusiast but just newcomers to the porsche brotherhood. I get waves all the time with earlier porsche owners but with the newer models drivers, I get this dumb stare' ..hahaha." You might be right. The folks in here are essentially true believers, but I've got the feeling that a lot of folks in Porsches are in them because they're cool or chic or whatever, and not necessarily for the car itself. Personally, I light up every Porsche, no matter what they are.....
