Also, in 2 different M3 test drives, C&D tested the car at 4.4 0-60, and the M3 has the shortest stopping distance from 60 to 0 than any car i've ever seen, 104 feet!!!

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

2008 M3 Sedan. Black Metallic with Fox Red Leather. Car has every option available (except SMG). It was a demo that they've had since March 8th - I got $4k off sticker. Drove a 2007 Carrera S yesterday, just to make sure. Totally solidified my decision. For me, there was no comparison, so I got the M. It's not that the Carrera S isn't great, the M just fit "ME" right. I even like it better than my Turbo. I just miss the boost. I can't wait 'till other Porsche people drive it and give opinions.

POST 2Original post

Nice car if it is for you and meets your needs. then GREAT! I have a 328i I bought new ( no 2008 M3 Sedan) that meets my family needs. I drove this car as well as the Z06 and bought my dream car!!! Beautiful car!

POST 3Original post

nice car...congrats...I'd like to take one for a spin sometime. The mags all love it. but I have to admit, I'd still rather have the TT...

POST 4Original post

Congrats Gant! What do you like about it so much?

POST 5Original post

Sweet. Thanks for the pics. I thought I could "convince" you to post some!

POST 6Original post

Great wheels Gant....congrats! I had a few bimmers, but not an M....drive safe. J

POST 7Original post

Congrats Gant! I've only read great reviews on the new M3. It must be a blast!

POST 9Original post

Gant, congratulations. Very cool car. The red leather interior looks great with the black. A V8 that redlines at over 8,000 rpms has got to be a ton of fun. IfI were in the market for a new car, the M3 would be at the top of my list. Great bang for the buck.

POST 10Original post

Congrats-Gant. The new M3 is one hell of a car. I hardly hear anyone say anything bad about it. What was a key selling point for you? Does this make 3 cars in a year?

POST 11Original post

Nice car, great choice.(so, is this a way to save on increasing gas prices?)

POST 13Original post

Gant- I guess I should mention I am in Hamburg, Germany and will be traveling to Munich. I am going to try and swing by the BMW center there. If there is anything interesting I will photograph it and send it to you.

POST 14Original post

What, no floor mats? Let us know how you like it after the infatuation is over, you know, like a new girlfriend.

POST 15Original post

Very nice. You've had quite a few nice cars. How does it 'compare' to the CTSV? Looks like there are black floor mats (look for the heel cushion).

POST 19Original post

Beautiful car, I love the extended carbon fiber like weave that BMW uses on the new M. They are fantastic cars I am sure you will enjoy it!!!!

Thanks you guys!! It's not just one thing, it's everything. I have never driven a car that made me feed so "dialed in." The seats are perfect, it drives effortlessly like it's a go-cart. It feels so small and light, the way it shifts, sounds, rides. Just go drive one!! The perfect blend of refinement and rawness!! Not one key point. I hhadn't hear much about it. Read one great review, it piqued my interest so I went to drive it and it was better than I could have imagined. So I researched the F out of it, then drove a Carrera S. After driving the 997, the decision was easy. Most sure I've ever been about a car. It just fits me. I really want other P guys to drive one. Curious to see if it's just me!! Ya, I decided, if gas prices go way higher, Im just gonna buy a Civic Beater. Plus I live a mile from work. Brand new floor mats are on order! Great combination of daily driver and performance car...and the 4 years free maintenance doesn't hurt. But, we'll see!! CTS-V was fun cause of all the power but ultimately felt cheap and clunky and you felt disconnected. It was not easy to live with. I drive is gonna take some SERIOUS getting used to, that's for sure!

POST 21Original post

Congrats! I had a 335i, and I know it is no M3, but I really do prefer Porsche's over BMW's. The new M3 is awesome!

POST 22Original post

It is a nice car - I am a bimmer guy. Had M3s and M5 and still have Alpina B7Turbo. It is a totally different kind of car than a PCar. You will like the service cost the 1st 36k miles. I suggest a extended warranty also if you plan to keep or resell. I do not like the new BMW serviceless things like no drainage on trannys and differentials and no dipstick but it is a hell of a car and if you need a 4door it is available also. My wife prefers the ride to a Pcar.

POST 23Original post

Congrats on the M-beast, Gant! I see you opted for the extra rear-seat room of the sedan. How's the driving difference versus the coupe? I've had some time with the E46 M, so the E92 must be that much more exciting. A great performance package to be sure, although I'm not too keen on the new side-mirrors. And man, when are they going to update the shift-****/lever?!

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5488665

Drove the 335i, didn't like it at all. Even tho it is fast, it gives no sensation of that. It did nothing for me. THANKS for the congrats and if you haven't driven the new M, go check it out!!

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5488733

I drove the Coupe RIGHT after the Sedan. I looked for the Coupe to feel faster, more nimble, neither was the case. They felt EXACTLY the same. I think the Coupe is only 20lbs lighter. As far as Porsche v. Bimmer goes, I've now owned 4 P's and 3 Bimmers. Never thought I'd go back to Bimmer from Porsche. All I can say is, I buy the car I like the best and can afford. After driving a BRAND NEW $70k M3 and a 1 year old $80k Carrera S, M was the smart/right choice for me!! It's quite a privilege to have owned and experienced the pinnacle of each brand. All I can say is, they are both wonderful cars!!

POST 28Original post

I too am a Bimmer dood as well. Owned E36 and E46 M3's. While I am quite sure the build quality and overall experience of the new car is quite nice, it is not for me. Sadly, BMW has lost its way, IMO. the E46 M3 was the last "true" M3. Now the new car is too heavy and cumbersome. Simply it does not continue the tradition of what an M3 is to be. My opinion. Beautiful color combo. Enjoy the new ride. C.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5488909

I'd seen that opinion all over the M3 boards, same thing the E36 guys said about the E46. I gave this opinion much credence, then I drove the car and it has everything the E46 has, but better...AND a roaring V8 that is the most amazing sounding engine i've ever heard. I think 3700lbs isn't too bad, considering the E46 was 3415, the E36 was 3175 and the one before it was 2865Lbs. Cars get heavier, just the way it is. However, the 415BHP helps offset the weight. Also, the E90 M3 feels lighter than the E46, or so it does to me. Chad, have you driven one? Don't forget, a new 911 Turbo is 3500lbs.

POST 30Original post

I guess it’s a matter of taste and opinions. The price class of an M3 and 997s is quit different, so value for the money goes to the M3. That having said, I did drive a few E46M3 before picking up a 996 C2 last year. I love the drive of the P car so much that I sacrificed a newer M3 for an older P car with the budget I had.

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 5488909

I totally agree! BMW has lost its way.............bangled fangled and mangled, IDrive is a POS......the only thing i like about the new M3 and M5 is the HP. I think the only True M3 was the E30EVO to meet the production #'s for why this car was produced in the firstplace. MMotorsports is very cool the E36 one of my favorites, the E46 as the best looking and the E90 too many gizmos to break but with 400hp

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 5488931

Don't take my remarks personally. They are merely opinions of a car my friend. And, Yes drove one a week ago... I don't care for it. Sorry my friend. I give it high marks on build quality and overall feel. But, for the money and what "M3" means to me...BMW missed the mark. I may go back to an E46 M3 Competition Pack in the near future. And FWIW - the 911 AWD Turbo is in a completely different class than your car. I wish you the best with your new purchase. Enjoy. C.

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5489003

It's all good, Chad. That was my point, even a 911 Turbo only weighs only 200lbs less.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5488909

So, I was reading this Car & Driver article again, the one where the new M3 wins overall over the 911 and the GT-R. Here's a clip where the M3 is considered the light weight of the Group and actually ligher than BOTH!! Also, in 2 different M3 test drives, C&D tested the car at 4.4 0-60, and the M3 has the shortest stopping distance from 60 to 0 than any car i've ever seen, 104 feet!!! Anyway, I was out driving this morning and I have to say, this car is leaps and bounds MORE ///M than the E46. I think maybe you need to get one out for a day or two and REALLY explore it. It's truly amazing!!!

POST 35Original post

more amazing than your 996 turbo??? come on....let's get real here!!

POST 36Original post

I'm unsure I'd take an M3 over the 2008 C4S, but I can see liking it more than a 996 that could be over 6 years older. Let me ask you, did you need to pull it out of a lake?

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5490725

It certainly doesn't have the boost/speed. But, it just does everything SO well. Also remember, the Turbo was going on 8 years old, this car is going on 2 months old. This COULD have something to do with it. I can't explain it, it just feels so right. It was love at 1st drive!! And as I said, I drove a 2005 Carrera S before I drove the M AND after I drove the M I went back to Parktown and drove it again AND a 2007 Carrera S, and FOR ME, it was an easy choice. I'm as surprised as you guys. But, I urge ANYONE getting ready to move into a new car, and wants to spend $55 to $70k, just check it out!!!

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5490745

Well, I didn't drive a 2008 C4S, just a 1 and 3 year old C2S. I love Porsche, obviously; but this M is ****ing awesome!!! Uhm, maybe I should have run a Carfax!!!

POST 39Original post

Nice performing car but for a sedan, the hood bulge ruins the look.

POST 40Original post

Quotes source post: 5490749

I LOVE my '98 M Roadster. My wife drives a 2000 325 (5 speed - what a woman) and I LOVE the way that car handles for what it is. Beemers rock. Yes, my C2 has that floaty feel in high speed sweepers (especially if you ease off throttle mid corner) it rides a bit rougher and understeers when pushed hard into corners but the way it looks when you creep around a corner low & lean at 15 mph right after giving it a good wash and rub, the sound of that engine; the acceleration from 60 up... Nothing beats the P-car for those spine tingling intangibles that can't be measured by raw statistics. They are also things that differ from driver to driver so I do understand what you mean when you say "the Beemer just feels right, for you." Enjoy the M. I'm certain that if I drove one I'd LOVE it, but I just don't see myself exchanging the Porsche for anything (Unless I hear that tell tale rattle comming from behind, that is)

POST 41 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5491688

Yup, that's what I said.... Do NOT drive one. This thing is a whole different animal than the older M's. Just got back from a spirited drive, BEST car I've ever driven, and it just keep getting better. Thanks!!

POST 42Original post

first one I looked at (in SF) was $80K (eighty large)!

POST 43Original post

Congratulations! Did you also look at the MB C63 AMG? If so, how does it compare with the M3?

POST 44Original post

Congrats on a great car! I've a 2007 328i touring and love it. It's just a much more modern car than any 996; integrated Bluetooth, dynamic cruise control ... and BMW made the car feel much lighter than it actually is. However, even the new Bimmer magazine says that the E92 M3 is heavy and despite 90hp more power than a base 997C2 not faster, neither in a straight line nor on the track but if you don't buy the car for the track but as a daily driver, then it's a great quality product with much more practicality and the same amount of fun as any new 911 (maybe excluding the GT3).

POST 45Original post

Awesome car - congrats. I've never been much of a fan of M3's in the past, but BMW hit a homerun with this one. Sounds like a great car.

POST 46Original post

Beautiful car! congrats. This is an interesting thread between the E92M3 vs 997S. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/s...d.php?t=131208

POST 47Original post

Honestly my reservations about the new M3 are mostly aesthetic. I don't really care for it's appearance: The interior and exterior both leave me a little cold. The other reason though is because I always buy convertibles, and while the new M3 coupe may come in at a svelte (heh) 3700lbs, the convertible tips the scales at a whopping FOUR THOUSAND POUNDS (3991lbs!) My 996 Cab, for comparison, is a relatively featherlight 3135lbs. The M3's extra 80HP would need to be working pretty hard to compensate for that extra 850lbs it's hauling around. -

POST 48Original post

Quotes source post: 5488882

I bought the new M3 sedan as well (I have a 02 C4S as well, which I am keeping). I took the first sedan delivery from my dealer back in March. It's an awesome car. You're going to love it. Nice color combo. What's not to like, V8 power, 8,500 rpm redline, good back seat, 50-50 weigh distribution, fantasic handling with the option electronic dampers. The sedan is only 20lbs lighter than the coupe if you delete the sunroof, which I did. It your car has the sunropof if is 120lbs heavy than the coupe with the CF roof. The sedan actually handles better than the coupe, it is more neutral, the coupe has more oversteer. Congrats again. here are some pics of mine. http://s278.photobucket.com/albums/k...CarDriver2008/ Glenn

POST 49 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sweet, LOVE the color!! How would you compare it to the C4S, overall?

POST 50 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 5491688, 5493281

Ya, I had read this thread! Part of what got my interest up on the new M!!!

POST 51Original post

Yes, I would be very interested to see your thoughts in comparison to the C4S. I am in the same boat, have a C4S and looking for a 4 dr to add to the garage....

POST 52Original post

..........it is just those sedan "Bangled", rear tailights. They look so Japanese. The coupe's rear tailights look a lot better to me. Glad you are happy with it!

POST 53Original post

Quotes source post: 5493794

I think Audi has done a better job of designing their new car shapes. The new S5 is awesome. I saw one in person about a month ago and the interior just kicks butt.

POST 54Original post

Quotes source post: 5493460

I really think it's apples and oranges. One car is rear wheel drive, one's all-wheel drive, one has the engine in the front, the other the rear, etc. I think they are both very difference cars and I'm real lucky to have both. I would say that the M3 is faster but I LOVE them both and wouldn't sell either. Glenn

POST 55Original post

Watch Top Gear's recent episode. IMO the best, most condid honest reviews on cars. They did a comparison test with the M3, C63 and RS4. They all dirve quite different with very different characteristics. Sublime, Civilized & Insane. Enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG5i4uyzTok

POST 56Original post

Quotes source post: 5493829

I test drove the S5, the M5 and the M3. I chose the M3. my lease was up on my 2005 Audi S4. The S5 looks and drives great, but there is no way to fit an adult in that back seat. I couldn't even imagine buckling my 3 yr old in her car seat. The S5 is a great daily driver (all wheel drive) but is not a sports car like the M3 is. The M3 reminds me of my C5 Z06 but with four doors. The car loves to rev and the V8 power with rear wheel drive is great. Glenn

POST 57Original post

I don't car much for the sedan (the rear tail lights are just wrong) BUT the coupe is HOT!! And the driving experience in a BMW is amazing...even the X5 I just gotten rid off...handled super.....much better than the "boat" I now drive (avatar on the left)....luckily I had a couple of excuses to drive the P the last couple of days!
