I know that the engine were ran on a dyno before they put the car together, but I would not beat the hell out of it if it were brand new.

Suggestion

Mobil 1 0w-40 is the recomended oil and I would stick with it because the engine also uses the oil as a hydraulic fluid to operated the variocams.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I love it, drive it like you stole it. I did just that today!!

POST 5Original post

Don't baby it too much. I definately made a point of going through a lot of up and down rev cycles under load to seat the rings. My car now burns ZERO oil. Mobil1 0-w40 forever.

POST 6Original post

I know that the engine were ran on a dyno before they put the car together, but I would not beat the hell out of it if it were brand new. The rings are still not fully set, and you should drive the car at variable rpms for the first 500 miles. I'm not suggesting to baby the car, but redlining and slamshifting every gear as if you were at LeMans is not the best thing for a brand new car. I would drive it normal going throug the gear maybe shifting at 4500-5000 for the first 500 miles. On the freeway I would drive it at a moderate pace and down shift ocassionally to vary the RPMs. After 500mile then take the gloves off. Mobil 1 0w-40 is the recomended oil and I would stick with it because the engine also uses the oil as a hydraulic fluid to operated the variocams. They typically like the light weight for the hydraulic fluid.

POST 7Original post

Rings and everything else that moves in the engine is either set or explode after the intitial engine start. Varying rpm's is good for the first few driving cycles. This is simply to vary the temps in the cylinders. Varying means from idle up until you bounce off the rev limiter and evry rpm in between. The only must at all times is the car is at operating temperature.
