Suggestion

I was offered less than that for my 99 cab 6 months ago at many dealerships with similar mileage (which usually sells for about $10k more than non-cabs as yours) (i'd expect $40k+ for a used 996 cab with 50k miles) (which will probably change pretty shortly)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can you take a look at this and tell me if I'm way off with the price. It seems reasonable to me but the response has been slow. It's funny, I went to Carmax just for fun to see what they would give me.....$34,000 I would keep it forever before I let it go for that. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...lor=&cardist=0 Let me know what you guys think? Thanks Patrick 00 C4

POST 2Original post

unfortunately that's not as funny as you would think, although a nice car, the options won't add any substational value to trade-in.. I was offered less than that for my 99 cab 6 months ago at many dealerships with similar mileage (which usually sells for about $10k more than non-cabs as yours) (i'd expect $40k+ for a used 996 cab with 50k miles) (which will probably change pretty shortly) of course they didn't know the issues it had but regardless, assuming it was in excellent conditon, that's the high trade-in high value of these car nowadays... $34k is pretty fair dealer trade-in value with 40k miles with what you can expect now that the 997 is out.. that's about high auction/wholesale what these dealers can pick them up for... make SURE you mention to the dealer the car comes with the factory aero kit option.. some people leave that off, but that should bump up the value they calculate it by a couple thousand... your best bet is to wait around and sell it private party since it looks like quite a nice car with highly desirable color combinations and upgrades...

POST 3Original post

Patrick, the hardest part of owning a 996 is watching the prices continuing in a downward spiral. I decided to keep my 01 for that reason. It sounds like you have a great car, why not keep it. But if you must sell, I don't think the price you are asking is that far out of the ball park. Carmax is offering you wholesale, you're close to retail, so somewhere in between should be realistic. My nickels worth. Good luck.

POST 4Original post

I think you should keep it as well, but if you decide to trade it, sell me the aero kit. I would probably give you more than it would add on the sale price.

POST 5Original post

Side note - I just bought my well optioned '99 coupe(Nov. 98 build) in pristine concour condition, with 25K for under $35. Be prepared to be shocked. With the 997's gaining popularity and press, more and more will be hitting the market. Particularly around March / April. I think the '99-00 C2's will crest around the 30K mark. So if you are going to sell it, sell it soon. Chad

POST 6Original post

Sell to an individual. Try to market in snow areas. My previous C4 was hard to sell, no one wanted to pay extra for the awd, go figure. The aero kit is worth a bundle on the used market. Be sure to indicate factory aero especially when trading. You should be able to sell around the figure you are asking, maybe a few thousand less. Carmax is a good indicator of value but they don't know anything about aero's. You can get close to what you want off ebay, probably at least $40k wholesale. With all that said, your numbers look fine. Try ebay. IMO autotrader does not work well anymore. Mine sold in the local paper.

POST 7Original post

What are the other MY2000 C4's selling for in your area? That should be where you set your price from.

POST 8Original post

A few comments. I've sold two Porsches via autotrader.com (not the printed book) and I'd recommend it as the best place to sell your car. Secondly, if you can hold out until spring, there will be more buyers (and sellers...) but you'll be able to get a higher price for your car. Lastly, I think your price is in the ballpark if you can hold out for the correct buyer. Your ad reads very well. Stick with it!

POST 9Original post

I could sell my 00 C2 with 23k miles on it here in So. Cal for 45k all day long... Try to market it to So.Cal....Some parts of the country are tough to sell these in, not In Los angeles...

POST 10Original post

Here in Colo., I just sold my 00 GR C2 on Autotrader, similarly optioned (with no aero kit, but only 22K miles) for a little less than what you are asking. I was getting consistent trade-in quotes of $38K; maybe $39K if I cried real tears. I felt like it was either sell it now or keep it for the long haul. If you gotta sell, try lowering the price a couple or three thousand. FWIW... -jim

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all your replies. It's funny how far off KBB and blackbook are. They list trade in at 41k-43kish. I guess I'll just hold out and see what happens. I knew the phone wouldn't be ringing off the hook, but I expect a little more interest then I'm getting. I'll just have to wait for the right person. BTW the reason I'm selling is my wife and I are getting a divorce. No way do I want her to take the porsche, plus I'll need the money for the next 6 months or so. Thanks again everybody Patrick 00 c4

POST 12Original post

Don't you have 2 or more cars? If you have a 996 that has good history on it (no RMS, no major problems, etc.) then you should really consider keeping it. That way you are not playing roulette with another used car purchase. FYI....(and just my personal opinion).....I would NEVER let my wife in a divorce force me to sell my P-Car or threaten trying to get it in the property settlement. Like I said, don't you have 2 cars? His and Hers? One more thing....KBB is not really off. You just happen to be in an area of the country and a time where your car will command less than it is worth. KBB will tell you what it worth (fair) not what the stealer will offer or Mr. Smith off the street. Anyway, good luck with whatever decision you make.

POST 13Original post

Having been in the market for the past few months looking for a car just like yours, I recently purchased a 2000 C4 for $46K. I WAS looking for all wheel drive and would pay extra for it (and did.) Mine however had considerably less miles (11.5K) and came with over 3 years left on an aftermarket warranty. fully loaded with K40, and no aero kit (I was not looking for one.) I think based on the mileage its a little bit high. $40-$43K would be more reasonable.
