He has a 3.4L 996 C2, the clutch was changed about 1500 miles ago, and he had a replacement engine installed due to damage caused by a bent crank shaft (possibly done while the clutch was replaced by bad mechanic).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I am popping across from the 993 forum to ask advice on behalf of a friend. He has a 3.4L 996 C2, the clutch was changed about 1500 miles ago, and he had a replacement engine installed due to damage caused by a bent crank shaft (possibly done while the clutch was replaced by bad mechanic). Anyhow, on friday he was driving home and his clutch pedal sunk to the floor leaving the car un-drivable, the cluch is biting slightly, but not enough. What can the matter be?

POST 2Original post

What is the brake fluid level like. Check it to see if there is a leak.

POST 3Original post

Could need to be bled. Justa hunch without looking at it. Chad

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is the brake fluid level linked to the clutch?

POST 5Original post

The reservoir for the brake fluid is also for the hydraulic clutch.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, I'll tell him to look at it before he takes it to the mechanic that may have bent his crank shaft! Thanks for the input.

POST 7Original post

On a BMW, a clutch pedal stuck on the floor means the clutch master cylinder seals are no longer doing their job, and it is very easy to fix. I would presume similiar on a 996. Steve 99 996 00 M5

POST 8Original post

Not always, Uber. I had a '98 M3 toy my last go around and the slave / system needs to be bled properly after an install. He had mentioned that the clutch was swapped. My guess is air in the lines. C.

POST 9Original post

Definately check the brake fluid. An empty resevoir will tell you if you have leak somewhere. If your resevoir is full/fluid doesnt go dumping everywhere when you press the clutch, then either you have a bad master/slave or air in the lines, though its unlikely that the system was opened to install the new clutch disc.
