Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

A typical car usually needs to have the timing belt changed every 60K miles, but I have seen 90K recomendations.

Either way get a couple of quotes from different shops, and make sure they are replacing exactly the same parts.

The reason you would change the pump is because if the pump ever needs replacing the labor would be the same, so you minus will do it before it breaks.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Happy New Year everyone,It's been awhile since I've been able to hit the site. Been busy working on the Auto shows for the past few months. Anyhow the question is.I called a couple of repair shops in my area ( mich.) one in Waterford one in Clinton twnshp. for an over the phone best quess on timing belt replacement along with a waterpump changeover. From what I've seen as far as prices go for parts (on the web/mags) Timing/balance belts, roller kits, waterpump, thermostat some gaskets new pwr. steering belt a/c belt I figure $300-400 in parts ? One place told me around $500 without the pump. I added another $200 on top of that to play safe. The other place is telling me in a worst case $1100.-$1500 what gives ? this car has 109,000 miles on it .
Labor @ $100 an hr.? for how long.
If that's what it is then I'll pay. But hearing in the past on line $500-650 is normal with cars in the 150.000 mile range for this type of work. I'm a little puzzled? I realize they have not inspected the car yet. I was just preparing for sticker shock.
Thank God for overtime.
1st off what kind of car is this as a 911 uses timing chains. The average is about $500-600 on a typical car such as a Toyota. It really depends on thy type of car as some car require more work to get to than others and also the price of the parts. I know on a 944T the parts alone can add up to $400 with a rebuilt water pump. The labor on that car can also cost $400 too so there are cars that cost more than $500-600 total. A typical car usually needs to have the timing belt changed every 60K miles, but I have seen 90K recomendations. The reason you would change the pump is because if the pump ever needs replacing the labor would be the same, so you minus will do it before it breaks. Sorry Guy's just realized this is in the wrong posting area, but anywat it's 85/1 944. Upon some startups it has a rattling noise from behind the front cover. Prior is telling me he had them done 2 yrs ago but could not produce any paperwork on this car at all. Just playing safe is all. Again sorry about posting in the wrong spot. Will repost in correct forum, but thanks for the replies.
