Porsche wish: That I won't regret the PSE that's being installed today.

BTW, I took your advice on the rotor paint - I now have a can waiting to be used when I can get a warm enough day to do painting.

Favourite memory: Coming downstairs Christmas morning (around 9 years old) to find an AFX slot car set spanning the entire living room.

Okay Boys and Girls...
Let's liven up the Holiday cheer. Post your favorite holiday memory and a Porsche wish for this year.
My Memory:
10 years old. Growing up in Vermont. Dec 24th. We just had a seriously BIG snowfall. Upwards of 18". My father and I are clearing the driveway that evening. I pause for a moment, to just listen to the flakes falling. Absolutely inspiring...the smell, the sound. Though being pretty cold that night, that memory still brings a smile to my face.
Porsche Wish:
GT3 Cloth seats. Peace to you all...
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
C.
My Memory: Germany, near Kaiserslautern, got a *** airplane for Christmas. Woke up at 0'dark thirty (I was in the 4th or 5th grade), commenced to start that bad boy up in the house while everyone else was still asleep. Suffice to say they were not asleep for long!
Porsche Wish: Someone to make me a cool avatar for use here... Barring that, new wheels and time to enjoy the Pcar (work travel has been brutal lately and looks like it will continue to be for the foreseeable future)
memory - kindergarten, seoul korea, got some big **** presents from santa in front of all the kids
porsche wish - maybe some techart side and rear skirts, but nothing else really...
Okay, I'll play.
Christmas memory: I was 7 years old. I woke my parents up a 3am because I swore that I could hear reindeer bells outside the house.
Porsche Wish: Salt free roads so that I can go out and play.
...other than that I wish for nothing other than good health and good weather to allow me to enjoy my toy.
Happy Holidays everyone!
christmas memory: going to a store as a young kid pulling the guy's beard and being like WTF? However, I still got presents
Realization: Christmas is strange, but I like it.
Porsche wish: more of the same, and maybe a 3 spoke steering wheel....
memory; that Norelco electric shaver ad with Santa riding the shaver head over the snow
Porsche wish: well to keep it reasonable, A Valentine 1, a case of Asahi, and a case of Mobil 1
I have a lot of great Christmas memories. I will never know how my parents got their hands on whatever hot toy it was for the year, but they always did. Especially when you think they did not have e-bay or craigslist to buy from.
A standout was one year my brother and I got go carts - they were awesome. Driving up and down the street at 15 MPH, yelling at kids on their stupid new bikes was classic. His was a Corvette, mine a cool van (it was 1982 after all).
Still none of them compares to the memory of when my daughter was 2 and came out Christmas morning. That look on her face I will remember forever.
Porsche wish? That the mortgage guy around the corner will hang a "MUST SELL TODAY" sign on his black 996TT.
My Memory: 9 years ago, watching the joy and excitment on my 11-year old twins' (son & daughter) faces as they opened their gifts. That was the last Christmas with both children.
Porsche wish: Sell the 996 (and find a job).
memory: (not the favorite but the strongest) last year Christmas day...dying in a hospital bed. First day of the year almost in a coma, but hearing the fire works outside the hospital at midnight.
Porsche wish: not a wish anymore, arrived yesterday from Germany
Best Memory: Childhood home decorated for Christmas. It really was quite lovely with oriental rugs, big fireplace....
Porsche wish: That I won't regret the PSE that's being installed today. (Despite the signature image, I knuckled under peer pressure and put on clear side markers from BumperPlugs. [sigh....oh the pressure!] ) Based on input from OrientExpress, told the shop to leave the pink/grey wire disconnected that takes input from the speedo--so the instrument panel switch will rule.
Chad - I'm crushed!! You mean my orange cap that I sent you didn't fulfill your Porsche Xmas wish??? The shame.....
My best Xmas memories have happened every year since I've had kids (my oldest is 4). The sheer joy and excitement they have on Xmas morning is absolutely wonderful.
My Porsche wish is under the tree right now waiting for me - a new set of numbers for the track (had to help my wife out with that one).
Memory: Spending the holidays Skiing and riding snowmobiles with my family in Vermont when I was perhaps 9-10 years old.
Porsche Wish - That my Dad can fight off this horrific pancreatic cancer long enough to go for a ride with me in the 996. ...oh and a Painted Center console
.. I cant be totally morbid
In any event, this wont be a great Holiday season but it will be the first one with my daughter.
Memory: 9 or 10 years old, on ski vacation in the Italian Alps (living in Munich then). Forgot it was Christmas until on the 24th, my parents dug wrapped presents out of our overstuffed car.
Porsche Wish: My wife's continued patience with my car habit - that fossil fuel will still be around when my now 4 year old son learns to drive.
Stefan
On May 13 of 1999, my son Damian, died unexpectedly in his sleep. He was only 11 years old. As far as we knew, he was very healthy. They were unable to determine the cause of death.
Stefan & Mark,
Thanks for the kind thoughts. I didn't mean for this to darken this thread, but that Christmas 9 years ago is my most cherished Christmas memory, for obvious reasons! I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!
Tim
Really sorry for your loss Tim.
Christmas Past: I'm Jewish, but I loved watching those Christmas cartoons and claymation shows when I was little! I would be singing "Have a holly-jolly Christmas..." for weeks!
Porsche Wish: To drive my damned car more!! And to finally install the aluminum pedals that have been sitting in my garage since the summer!
Obviously agree with everyone's sentiment for Tim.
As for Christmas past, present, future: Chinese food and a movie
Porsche wish: "To drive my damned car more." I don't want aluminum pedals, although I do like the ones that came with my S4.
Andy, are you seeing a common thread here????
The Chinese food gave it away! My Italian wife just asked me "why eat Chinese food on Christmas day?". She laughed when I told her the reason - because they are OPEN!
Tim - I truly cant imagine your loss - I hope that you have the best holiday that you can-
Best memory for me was my mom bringing home a tree that was taller than the living room ceiling and looked really funny.
X-mas wish is granted for me this year - all my family is going to be together for the first time in 14 years bit I have to go to Iowa to make it happen
...and not having to cook or deal with family means that you'll have time to do the install of your pedals.
BTW, I took your advice on the rotor paint - I now have a can waiting to be used when I can get a warm enough day to do painting.
Lanny, Arnee - thanks for the kind words.
Cory - it's OK that you asked. Now more people are aware that my son, Damian, was here and that's a good thing!
Sorry to hear, Tim - that's a wound I doubt will ever fully heal. RIP, Damian, may your memory live on in the hearts of those who knew you.
Favorite Christmas memory:
My dad is german (born and bred), so often on Christmas Eve with presents under the tree we'd get to open 1 (and only 1) present from under the tree because "It was Christmas in Germany" by then. Of course, it wasn't automatic - my parents made us work for it - begging and pleading and whining (and shaking, and examining) a bit - but in the end they always gave in.
Porsche wish: Not sure that I have one - other than maybe some time this summer to go on a decent road trip up in the Colorado high country.
- Nick
Tim, no words............wow. Random things.... I had one a few days ago, that damn cancer seems to need an a%% whoopin!
I am almost 45 years old... Chrismas in Northern CA as a kid = very cool Schwinn bicycle...? were they jewish? if so La heim!!
Teen Christmas in CT= If they do not have it at the Darien Sport Shop, you do not need it!
Current Christmas in NH= Toys for Tots, God bless our Military, our current health, safe travels, appreciation for the elderly, and, how did I get so damn lucky to drive such a sweet piece of engineering that I am mature and smart enough to appreciate!~!
My wish is that the porsche detail elfs could stop by and cleanse my poor C4S that is totally crusted and caked with NH winter crap! The truth is=I am actually enjoying going out to my garage and witnessing the result of my enjoyment that I am experiencing from driving the snot out of my car during this brutal season. I really looks like it has been abandoned but I know it can be beautified with hot water and TLC.
Be Merry!
Stevo
Which paint did you wind up with Wayne??
Another Porsche wish: That my summer rims and tires don't rot sitting on my deck coverd by a "Tire Garage" nylon thingy!
[QUOTE=Wellardmac;4899983]yup.[/QUOTE
No parent should ever have to suffer such a loss. This thread has surely tugged on serious wounds. However, it evidences that even Porsche owners lead normal lives, and that the individuals who contribute to the list are thoughtful and supportive.

Agreed. The experience of having to hold your dead son is one of 2 experiences that truly qualifies as "having a bad day"
Favourite memory: Coming downstairs Christmas morning (around 9 years old) to find an AFX slot car set spanning the entire living room.
Christmas wishes:
1)My fellow Rennlisters with past and present hardships find some happiness this holiday season...
2)My meeting with my doctor goes well this afternoon and the tests come back negative for the big "C"
3)It arrived from Sunset Porsche yesterday
Happy Holidays,
Joe
Item #2 would qualify as #2 on the list of "a truly bad day"
Good luck.
If it helps - if the news were bad, I'm sure you would have gotten a phone call before the appointment.
Best memory- Waking up early AM to find a brand new bike outside my bedroom door, fully equipped with the sparkling gold banana seat and monkey style handle bars. I took it on the road before the sun came out. At the time I was living just outside Mexico city, the weather was no issue.
Wish- My new (to me) low miles no warranty dream does not blow up any time soon... after market mufflers, plug for the driver side door handle, aluminum pedals, tinted windows.... This is it for now.
I AM expecting one of my family members to step up hard and get me that key plug.
I to am very sorry to hear of the great loss you both have had. Your children are in a better place, God bless you both.
Ludwig
Best memory: When I was 10 and my brother was 13, my parents bought us remote control cars (gas operated). Since I'm from Ottawa, we couldn't drive them outside so we went to the basement and fired them up. The ventilation in the basement wasn't very good so after about 1/2 hour, we were both not feeling too hot. Had a blast though.
Wish - I could stop agonizing over the money I spent on my car and enjoy it more. Some of the stories in the thread certainly have made me reflect on the good things in my life. Happy Holidays everyone.
Best memory: The Christmas I proposed to my wife. I'd given her a little mare for Christmas, so she had no idea what was coming. My two kids were there along with her son. I'd already asked him for his blessing before I popped the question. She was speechless, and then all I heard from upstairs was, "What did she say?"
Second fave would be the year I took everybody heliskiing. You should have seen their faces when I told them. I LOVE blowing them away at Christmas. It's a weakness.
Wish: My daughter is dealing with a brain tumor right now, and my sister is in a fairly bleak situation with the return of breast cancer. I'm a lucky guy, so my wishes are for them.
See, guys, life happens to all of us. The object isn't to avoid trouble, because it's going to find you no matter what. The object is to stay awake to being alive, celebrate the good days, thank whomever/whatever you worship that you're loved.
Happy holidays to my virtual Porsche buddies. Even the ones that don't like me.
My fondest memory of Christmas is of my oldest daughter now 21. Then her 2nd or 3rd Christmas. I can't remember if she was 2 or 3. Any way she unwraped her baby doll looked it square in the face, mumbled something and kissed it right on the lips. It wasn't until some years later when we re- viewed the video tape we had made, now, much more coherent to baby talk having had our second daugher, that we were surprised to clearly hear her say "kiss the baby" before planting the smooch. Obviously mimicking her mother or me from the many kisses planted on her. There is nothing more precious than a child. The loss of one, even if not my own, Is and will allways be to me one of lifes great mysteries. I can not even bear the thought. I guess you can not know the joy or pain another has experienced in their life until you have walked the mile in their shoes. So, this Christmas my wish is for more love and understanding and kindness to others. As we used to say in the late 60 and 70s....Peace.
Best Christmas Memory:
This coming Christmas and the fact that I will be able to walk downstairs in to even see a tree. On May 19 of this year, I broke my back and severely fractured my T12 to the point that I should not have walked away from it. 11 days after the accident I walked out of the hospital. 6 Months to the day, I ran a DE at Eagles Canyon Texas to celebrate the good fortune that I was given.
Reading about those who are fighting illness and remembering the losses of children makes me feel guilty for even reminiscing about my accident and recovery. It's sends you to your knees to think about how lucky and fortunate we all are and no matter the loss and its level, God, or whomever you pray to, gives you the resolve and strength to carry on. When I came home from the hospital, I looked in the garage, saw a 500hp Porsche, a 500hp BMW and thought, "gee its nice to see you guys but what is life really about?" Take a moment each week and carry that "pay-it-forward" attitude out of the house and do something for someone.
Again, to those of you thinking of your children, I hope you find peace in your heart throughout the holiday season. Peace.
Christmas memory:
Growing up in Taiwan in a Buddhist home and then moving to Saudi Arabia as a kid, I did not experience your stereotypical Christmas celebrations. However, after being shipped off to boarding school in the States for high school, I related Christmas as a time when all of us in the family would spend time together. It is the time to give and forgive.
Porsche Wish:
Will definitely get new suspension and perhaps wheels by spring. Would like advice and help from you folks in the next several months. Peace to All.
