Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
Yeah I had my no 1 cylinder read o PSI compression at 10,000 miles on rebuild once...it was the valve though...
Leading evidence: 'valve' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'valve' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I closed on the 2001 C4 last weekend and did a carfax, test drove it twice, put it up on the lift and checked the cherry undercarriage...dat's it...

Suggestion
Really a PPI amounts to putting the car on a lift, taking a look and running the computer and checking dealer records, not required in every purchase like DJ's.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, I bought my 02 w/ 17k mi without a PPI. I had someone checked it out and test drove it since it was out of state. Knowing it was owned by the original owner that has a few Porsche's, I feel comfortable with it. In retrospect, it was a risk that I just didn't consider. I'd do it if I were you. A couple hundred bucks is little to pay. I'd also check for RMS and tranny warranty history too.
Well, went by the shop and saw the under belly of the car...definitely saw a potential RMS repair coming. It was a little wet around the area but not enough to drip onto the floor, yet.
For the price should I buy it or move on? Since it is still under warranty, I could have it fixed and be happy.
Hey...fill me in on all the "shoulda dones!"
What is a PPI?
What is a Leakdown?
I understand what a compression test is, and the value or one though.
I closed on the 2001 C4 last weekend and did a carfax, test drove it twice, put it up on the lift and checked the cherry undercarriage...dat's it...
Now that you mention it....we could have done more. Certainly the Compression test.
Pre Purchase Inspection PPI, the leakdown is the same as a compression test, tells you how well the rings/valves are sealing the combustion chamber at TDC, a small amout of leak is OK, as long as it is uniform. If 5/6 are 10% down and 1/6 is 40% down , that's a problem that might only show up ona compression test. It's actually easy to do, a special gauge screws into the spark plug hole via a fitting, undo the ignition coil and crank the starter several revolutions and record your data, repeat for each cylinder. Back when we raced SBC's the gauge was around 20$, probably 200$ for a 'porsche' gauge.
In my mind a PPI is important for a p car bc of the significant $$ involved, however, that can be sidestepped if you know the guy or his car and trust him. Really a PPI amounts to putting the car on a lift, taking a look and running the computer and checking dealer records, not required in every purchase like DJ's.
Yeah I had my no 1 cylinder read o PSI compression at 10,000 miles on rebuild once...it was the valve though...
So my water-boy reponse was "Hmmmmmmmmmmm Dats Y it beeeen running like ****!"
So on the "leakdown" is it a percentage of MFG's Spec Compression in PSI or what ever compression is usually measured in ...?
All,
My 1st post. :-)
I am in the market for an 02/03 C4S right now...how do I find a credible place for PPI? Most likely the car will be from out of town -- I live in Kansas.
Thx in advance!

To be clear...I was thinking about finding a local PPI to check the car before I fly down to purchase it.
Can ideas how to locate a credible PPI shop in the city where the car is?
Many thx,
