Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have just purchased one of the very very few remaining new 996 models. It is a 2004 brand new off the lot believe it or not. I am awaiting it's arrival next week. I live in Texas, but go the car in the northeast so it has to be shipped. I know little about the Porsche other than I have always wanted one. I have driven several, but never really got into detail with them. I look forward to this experience. Any suggestions on do's and do not's of ownership?

POST 2Original post

Do not: drive your car for a week and think that it's not much different than other cars, it took me several months of driving to get comfortable with the car. Do: try an auto cross event or get some track time, you can do this without having to get track tires and brake pads, you will then realize that you drive your car at almost nothing compared to what it can do, most of the time we drive around like a bunch of old ladies. try some mod's-side lights, short shifter, exhaust and the list goes on drive your car lot's, it's more fun that way Good luck.

POST 3Original post

Do drive it regularly, don't let it sit unattended

POST 6Original post

First congratulations and you've come to the right place. You are going to love it. Don't hesitate to ask questions...or search here for answers. What other cars have you had (for comparisons)? Enjoy in good health!

POST 7Original post

Congrats and welcome to the forum. In case you don't know, it's customary for a newbie to post pics of the new ride. We want pics... we love pics... we NEED pics! Welcome!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have had mostly BMW for the last many years. A 540 (E39 model for those familiar) with 6 speed manual, and a few 3's in there also. MOst recent was the 540. I had it a long time, and it was just time to put it to rest. I always wanted a 911, but was almost tempted by the BMW 650. I think I have made the right choice based on everything I have read. No way next Wednesday can get here quickly enough. I new I should have gone up there myself, but it's too late for that now. Wross996tt - sorry about the game last week ;-) Any idea who will replace Barnett? It is too bad for him I always thought he was a good guy, and a good coach.

POST 9Original post

Congrats. I know what you are feeling. I had to wait a few weeks for my '03 to be delivered last month. Trust me. It will be worth the wait. I agree that it takes a while to get comfortable with these cars. They are really different from anything else. Where in Texas are you?

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am in Houston. The car is in New Jersey. I will post a few pictures as soon as I get the car. Should be next Tuesday or Wednesday. They are picking up the car on Saturday, and it should take 3-4 days to get it here. That is a loooooonnngggggg time.

POST 12Original post

Congrats on the purchase. Sounds like a nice car.

POST 13Original post

You call that a game??? Football around here for the last couple of years has been painful. Too much press if you ask me. Lucky I'm a USC fan as well. Barnett is a good guy, just not sure how good of a coach he is? We'll see. BTW USC is going to crush The Horns! FIGHT ON!

POST 14Original post

Since you're in Houston, I suggest joining the Lone Star Region of the PCA (website: http://www.lsrpca.com/) . To echo missmy993's comments, track time is fun and rewarding and the LSR guys put on great D.E.s. The next one is in mid-January. Hope to see you there!

POST 15Original post

Time will go very very slowly for a few days!

POST 17Original post

Them's fightin' words (I'm a Longhorns alum)!!! Should be a great game between the two lone undefeated teams and also the two best offenses in NCAA. There's no BCS controversy this year for sure. Welcome to the forums, blk on blk. I'm a fellow Houstonian as well. Enjoy your new 911!
