Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone ever done this using aglausa.com?? (Alan Gun Leather) I would really like a thicker wheel AGLA Thick Grip/Anatomic Modified 996 Wheel

POST 2Original post

I'm not a fan of overly thick paddington bear stuffing wheels like above. i did get a chance to drive a 996 with the optional OEM euro version thicker, smaller steering wheel. fantastic. if i didn't have my school bus CF OEM wheel to match my other OEM CF bits, i'd go for this all leather version no question.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5197474

The 996 wheel is just so damn skinny, I love the feel of the 930S wheel in my 86 and I drove a friends 3 series that had a nice "robust" wheel today, got me thinking.

POST 4Original post

I love the 3-spoke stock wheel on my C2. You want 10:00 and 2:00 thickness all around?

POST 5Original post

marc seriously check out the euro factory option smaller/thicker steering wheel. it's spot on. the M steering on the Z4M is ridiculous thick.

POST 6Original post

I had my 3 spoke done in alcantara and added 1/16" to it and its perfect. It is the same thickness as the M5 wheel in my X5. He does a great job. Not affiliated etc. His name is Don and you can email them at dallassteeringwheel.com

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm bitching allot today about my car for some reason, skinny wheel, Boring interior But I do enjoy droving it! But the wheel is kinda skinny.... This one feels right to me:

POST 8Original post

The 930S wheel is realy nice (my father has it in his 87.5) but would look pretty dated in our cars I think. Plus no airbag...

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 5197396

Maybe it's the angle, but that looks hella thick! I think the factory Turbo 3-spoke looks perfect on any 996. Any thicker and it starts to look like Ah-nold. On the flip-side, my MF steering wheel is way too thin. An Acura sedan shouldn't have a thicker factory wheel than any 911!

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 5197578

+1. You would have no trouble selling your current three-spoke. The net cost of getting the real thing would probably not be too hard to take.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5197703

I agree, I just like the thickness and diameter of the 930 wheel

POST 12Original post

Too bad the 930 only looks good in the 930. It's hella dated. I believe Audion19s has the thicker Euro steering wheel in his car. Not sure if he'd be willing to take a pic.

POST 13Original post

Do a search for aglausa.com (Alan Gun Leather) here on rennlist. People seem to have some very strong feeling regarding his work and his professionalism (or lack of).

POST 14Original post

Marc: I had Alan pad my wheel and cover my airbag. I had to return it twice and it took over a year to get it back. I'm still not completely satisfied but I don't dare return it again. Alan is a nice guy and he will keep trying every time you send it back, but craftsmanship on a budget is never easy. If you don't mind "slightly" crooked stitching, "tiny" lumps under the leather and "slight" asymetrical fit, Alan can give you a nice wheel for a nice price. If you want perfection, you need to keep looking.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5199540

Well, That settles that... guess I will look for the euro wheel. Thanks for the feedback!

POST 16Original post

Here is the wheel you want, but a little pricey. http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p96138.htm Porsche CPZ wheel

POST 17Original post

UCK, that's exactly what I was talking about. If not for the CF crap in my car, I'd hit that up no doubt. Deifnitely price. Perfection is to add the leather stitched center which I have and enjoy.

That is really sweet... where is that credit card.. hummm

+1 Marc, Do a search under my name and AGLA. Utterly disastrous experience, with an incredible amount of frustration and money down the drain. I'd rather wrap duct tape around my 993 wheel before allowing that horse's *** to touch anything of mine again. Found it! This thread should dissuade anyone from doing business with these buffoons: AGLA Andreas

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Andreas, Thanks, I have gotten many warnings about AGLA. I will pass for sure! About 10 years ago or so I bought a leather ebrake cover for my 86 from him but installed it myself, quality and color was good.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 5197745

Removed before I purchased the car. Wasn't on the top of my priority list and he wanted extra for it so I passed as I still got the "standard" 3-spoke wheel with the car. Kinda wish I hadn't now that I think about it. Andy

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 5201238

It's essentially the OEM thicker wheel - it's a little over $1K I believe without the air bag.

POST 24Original post

Will the Airbag from the standard three spoke work with this? I have the silver Crested one which I'd like to keep if I were to opt for this wheel.

POST 25Original post

i personally think it looks whack to put a non-leather center for this wheel. the only way to do it is to get the leather center (stitched) matched to this thicker wheel whether the crest is silver or not

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5201336

The old airbag will fit fine.

POST 27Original post

So $1200+ for the wheel part. Anyone want to buy my OEM CF steering wheel part?

POST 28Original post

Seems like a TON of money for a slightly thicker wheel? I had a 930s wheel on my first 944, but thought it was too thick, took it off and sold it. I guess I like the thick parts of the stock wheel, and the thin, when I feel like grabbing less!

POST 29Original post

It's not just thicker which it actually isn't that thick since I've seen this wheel and touched it. It's smaller in diameter as well. I find the stock wheel a little big.

POST 30Original post

Agreed on the diameter of the stock, it really is a friggin school bus style wheel...I don't think i have an issue with it otherwise.

POST 31Original post

So my CF wheel is a bargain $1350-1400 shipped to the States. Yay. http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p96097.htm And I misspoke, apologies... the diameter is curiously the same (38), but I swear there is a smaller diameter version that's OEM that is also thicker? Maybe it's smaller looking cuz it's now thicker.

POST 32Original post

It will be cheaper to make your hands smaller....LOL

POST 33Original post

look here... http://www.fvd.us/us/en/Porsche-0/99...eather%29.html for the price of the carnewal i would get this one. size, quality and appearance look great...

POST 34Original post

that thing looks like an xbox game steering wheel

POST 35Original post

ben...i thought you would have loved it. meets most of your criteria...smaller than oem, cf and leather ab.

POST 36Original post

i'd like to love it... but it's just too thick and with too much shaping going on to fit the rather bland/conservative porsche interior. do u know what i'm saying? maybe in the bangle bmw interiors it could be done... heck not even in the new bimmers would it look at home. just my visual taste....

POST 37Original post

Quotes source post: 5202116

I'd take my "bland" interior over any 997 "aluma-fest"!

POST 39Original post

Anyone have experience with them WheelSkin wraps like from Automotion? Quality? Do they just get wrapped over the existing steering wheel without removing the existing cover? And do they add any noticeable thickness? Just a thought...

POST 40Original post

Quotes source post: 5440944

The wheelskin products are pretty good. I'm put them in other cars to "thicken" up a steering wheel. It just goes over the existing. Drawbacks are that is just never looks as good as factory wrap.

POST 42Original post

That is my wheel in the picture. It is superb. AGLA did a great job. Took 6 weeks. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/a...6&d=1203984778 Everyone who saw it at VIR loved it. So it goes. I use it every day and it puts a smile on my face. I had the Dallas shop do an Acura wheel for me and it was ok...for some reason they just missed what I wanted out of the project while the AGLA person understood my goals better. Just me. Best of luck.

POST 43Original post

Quotes source post: 5441411

Thx. I'm thinking about trying them out. Don't seem to cost a whole lot if I'm just trying to thicken the wheel out a bit.
