FWIW, I ran a set of boxster 17x8.5s up front with the stock 18x10s in the back when I 1st got my car because it what I had avail that worked with the tires I had leftover.

I figured if Corvettes could run the 17 / 18 setup I'd sure as heck try it as it was the cheapest way to get an 8.5' wheel on the front.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

24 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car with it's track equipment. Ugly as sin..but the current setup is the best yet when it comes to driving pleasure at the track....and it was all done on the cheap so that I can continue to work on the nut behind the wheel rather than spending all of my money on the latest track bling and having nothing left over for actual track time. mmm...negative camber eauuuuwwwaaahhh...pep boys pipes. (I trired to paint them black...the paint didn't last long) Andy

POST 2Original post

What are you talking about; your car looks great except for the exhaust tips. You know you can get nice looking bypass pipe that don’t cost much.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5429340

They are horrible...even embarassing to an extent but I can't stand to run them on the street so I only use them at the track. Can't justify spending $$$ on prettier ones that are rarely used. However Jegs is local to me and they do sell 90 degree mandrel bends for about $30 each so I may make a "nicer" set of budget bypass pipes in the near future so they aren't quite as hideous.

POST 5Original post

Not so bad there! Pipes look as raw as you can get....if they are track only, who cares. GO BUCKS!!! j

POST 6Original post

nice thread theme..and I like the color Your car looks bad *** and I wouldn't call it ugly at all (except the pipes). so what wheels are those? What size are they and the same for the track rubber? Hard to tell blacked out. Did you paint them yourself? +1 on the cheap pipes, you can get cheap and thick tubed mandrel bends at the auto stores. Ok here is your car's twin with the same purpose in mind. 17x9.5 w/ 275/40/17 Hoosier R6 and 17x11.5 w/ 315/35/16 R6. Yours is still lower!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5429610

I was wondering when someone was going to call me out on the mismatched wheels. Boxster rears in the front 17 x 8.5, MY02 5-spokes in the rear 18 x 10. Spray painted black to make it less obvious that they're completely different wheels. 255/295 Toyo R888's. I figured if Corvettes could run the 17 / 18 setup I'd sure as heck try it as it was the cheapest way to get an 8.5' wheel on the front. Turns out that despite lacking a bit of crispness at turn-in there are no negative effects of that setup. It's a 23lb 8.5' wide wheel that cost me $50 each...can't go wrong there! Can't imagine how good the grip is on your car with 275 hoosiers on the front, however I do think that the R888's seem to have a good bit more grip than the RA-1's that I used to run. Maybe it's all in my head since I'm running a different stagger and a little more tire. I can afford to be lower 'cause I've got twice the spring rate you do. , the lower lip has to come off as soon as I get back from the track 'cause it'd never make it through it's daily driver duties.

POST 8Original post

tracking on a budget, i love it! btw..your car is epicly slammed! i think it might be even lower than my 99 aero. how do you get around town with it? (very carefully i'm assuming )

POST 9Original post

Andy, as for the mismatch, with the black paint you can hardly tell. I'd run the R888 if they made one big enough in 17 for the back. I personally don't think there is any issue with the 17/18 thing.. as long as the OD is close... NSZ, Z06, etc used it. FWIW, I ran a set of boxster 17x8.5s up front with the stock 18x10s in the back when I 1st got my car because it what I had avail that worked with the tires I had leftover. Anyhooo, looks killer.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5429764

It used to be lower but I raised it up about 5mm to decrease bump steer a bit and to make it liveable on a daily basis. It's just a hair under 110mm front ride height now. I remove the lower lip from the aero bumper for street driving and make sure I'm aware of my surroundings. My wife drives it more on the street than I do and (knock on wood) hasn't had any issues with scraping. I think the stiff springs actually help with these issues as well. Andy

I hear ya... likely next year for me as our local PCA group just went to MO last week when I had work travel obligations.

POST 13Original post

I have a set of Fabspeed bypass pipes I do not use. I had them on my 2004 C2. PM me if you would want them

POST 14Original post

Car looks fantastic. The mismatched wheels are barely noticeable and I love how lowered the car is. Tail pipes? Well, perfection is ever elusive.

POST 15Original post

Wow - that car looks great! The exhaust tips are horrible looking, but damn, that car looks awesome..

POST 17Original post

I don't understand the deal with the tips? You don't have tips in the house or have your removed the entire canister? If you need tips I have some, my buddy is on his way up to Pickerington this weekend..

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Noby: Just on there to reduce weight for the track and so that I can hear my car over others at the track. Washington: my GHL mufflers with proper tips were the first thing I put back on the car sunday night Thanks for the offer though.

You try some high temp paint on the pipes? http://www.woodmanspartsplus.com/161...ove-Paint.html

POST 21Original post

Tips aside, you're tracking a 996, not an '82 924, so don't sweat it. 996 coupes make for damn fine track cars!!

POST 22Original post

i got bypass pipes with decent (close to factory) tips from an ebay store for like $150. basically the same as the fabspeed pipes. fit was perfect, looks fine and got the results i wanted. if you are interested i can do some digging and find the seller.

POST 23Original post

Andy- I know it's for the track, but it looks horrible. Your car looks sooo nice in street form, just wait and save for the right parts...she deserves it!

POST 24Original post

I don't understand what is so butt ugly about your P...I think (besides the tips...YES they are butt ugly) tha red with black rims and the spoiler look pretty damn SEXY!!!
