oh - BTW you can do the whole thing without removing or disconnecting the airbag (providing you disconnected the car battery and waited at least 5 min) (manual say 1min)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Got her 2 months ago with lots of issues to be addressed. First thing - first !

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Following another member story with the Cab window regulator and the impact of the cab roof operation - I wanted to share this with you: 1. you can pull the darn thing out without messing with any of the roof mechanisms. 2. sometime you will be able to save the day and refurbish the part using.. well look at the Pic and notice the "donor" material I used to manufacture a replacement for the shattered original pulley.

POST 3Original post

Congrats on the purchase! Looks like a nice cab! This is the first 996 I've seen with the new 997 turbo wheels. It certainly makes it look more modern!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Another DIY I had to deal with, was the notorious main window regulator. the damn thing had so much cable slack it was amazing. less so was the carnage I found once opened the driver door, torn foam cover, amateur micro-switch fix, missing screws, Etc. oh - BTW you can do the whole thing without removing or disconnecting the airbag (providing you disconnected the car battery and waited at least 5 min) (manual say 1min)

POST 5Original post

Nice N shiney!! Do you have another pic of the rear regulator with a larger field of view? One that shows a little more of the car to give a better idea of car/part relationship? The old front one looks like it is 6" longer, thats some stretching?!!? Your wife is going to be upset next time she uses that cutting board.

POST 6Original post

Welcome ! Looks like you are taking her apart ah?

POST 7Original post

Wow: new owner, congrats! and digging right in. BTW: b4 the projest began, your startig with a beautiful looking example. Enjoy!

POST 8Original post

[drooling Homer Simpson voice] Must ... have ... those ... wheels [/voice]

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all, she does look good with those turbo wheels.. Also has H&R springs for lower stance and great cornering performance not for comfort though.. (ouch my back!) everything else is pretty much stock. fpb111 - here is another pic of the part location, its right behind the conv roof cylinder and can be carefully wiggled out without disturbing this touchy mechanism (secure the electrical connector and be prepared to lose some skin in the process but its worth it..)

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tis' the season for Hardtop ! Also heated seats (one of the most satisfying fix you can do) and thanks to the forum , I was able to find and re solder the burnt wires now its nice and toasty inside..

POST 11Original post

That black top + suspension makes this car sinister!!! Well done man

POST 12Original post

Nice car and initiative. Is your wife looking for her cutting board?

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

me: hey can you find me your old cutting board? Wife: what do you need it for? me: Ah.. I need it to fix the car.. Wife: here it is - I don't even want to know what you R up to now.. (she knows me..) on other DIY issue.. did anyone fix a bad clock-spring connection to the steering wheel? I get intermittent horn and Tip controls operation from the wheel yes yes its 01 Tip (wife won this battle)..

POST 14Original post

I must be seeing things no one jumped on the Ambers!. LOL

POST 15Original post

Oded, you have to tell me how to get the freaking regulator out....do you have a write up? Been struggling with that sucker for a while already.... BTW, beautiful car....

POST 16Original post

Welcome Oded, nice looking cab and wheels. Nice to see that you couldn't wait to resolve some issues under the skin.

totally! Turbo Wheels + dome-like hardtop = Darth Vader Would make for a nice number plate too ..... DRTHVDR

POST 19Original post

Thanks for the extra pics. Marc replaced his clock spring. Not much different then any other car. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...el-airbag.html U tube turn signal actuator replacement. Steering wheel has to come off. You Tube

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I will get a replacement part and try to take apart and fix the old one. will let you guys know how it goes..

POST 21Original post

Still a little at odds on what needs to come out to pull the regulator upwards... See the pics and let me know if I am missing something:

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For Nut 3 - there is access hole down there (covered with some rubber cap if I remember correctly) I had to use 2 X 1/2" extenders + long socket on my ratchet to get to it (i think its a 12mm socket - not sure) tip: - smear something sticky on the socket to secure the nut and leave the extender lying there until you are ready to put it back on, this way you will not risk dropping the stupid thing in there (it will take forever to fish back). Once removed - the part is now loose, just be sure to secure the electrical connector with bungee cord once removed and just wiggle gently until you find the correct angle for the plate+motor to slide out. (be prepared to loose some skin in the process). good luck! I'm off now to replace my worn rear control arm bushings (will it never end..)

POST 23Original post

Thanks for the response.... I assume you need to move the top up to clear the acces hole, as the cylinder appears to be in the way.. I will repost with more pics once I get to it....I should be getting the car back from the body shop by this Friday and hopefully will make another attempt this weekend

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just one more tip - the 3rd nut is removed from an adjustable stud ! you will have to turn it to maximum closed position in order to slide the part out (clearance) and than extend it once the part is back in. (no roof component removal is necessary!)

Pretty cool video. I see another mod coming - new steering wheel... It looks pretty straightforward....
