I had a dealer ask me 12k boot for my really well equipped extra clean 996 coupe for his 98 993 cab with about the same mileage.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking to buy a nice example of a 996 but want the piece of mind of at least 1yr warranty, preferably a certified car. I have driven probably a dozen or so cars from '99 - '02 both cabs and coupes. In my opinion the '01 and '02 really standout in terms of interior quality from the '99 and '00. The '02 certainly feels faster seat of the pants than the 3.4l. In fact, I just recently drove a '01 with the Fabspeed Bypass pipes that seemed slower than the '02 bone stock. The Fabspeed car sounded terrific but the bypass pipes are a bit much, I think I would rather have the performance exhaust to tone it down a bit. The stock '02 sounded great actually so a fabspeed exhaust on the 3.6l must really sound good. I want to spend around $45k and am finding the '02 is a bit higher than that at the moment. Do you think the '02 will come down in price in the next few months or will they spike come springtime? It just seems that the '02 is a superior car to the '01, any thoughts? Thanks, Alex

POST 3Original post

The '02 is significantly different than the '01. Many changes. As to whether they come down that much, hard to say. You are coming into the winter months and it will be more of a buyers market. You should also be aware that these cars are all built with almost everything as an option. So you need to do your homework as to what are you "must have" options and make sure that you find the "right" car. I spent 4 months looking for mine. From the sales '02 brochure: ...headlight system derived from the 911 Turbo. More discreet is the careful reshaping of the front and rear fenders, bumpers and air dam. The result is 25% less lift in the front and 40% less lift at the rear for improved high speed stability.... Reinforcements to the body structure have resulted in a 25% increase in torsional rigidity for crisper response and enhanced agility. The standard 17" wheels weigh almost eight pounds less than the previous design, while the optional 18" wheels are lighter by over 24 pounds. The front air ducts have been reshaped to increase the flow of cooling air to the radiators by 15%" You also get 20 more HP, a glove box, better cup holders and a glass rear window in the cab. I test drove a number of cars and spent a few $$ more for an '02. You could definitely tell the difference when you drive them back to back.

POST 4Original post

CLL - nice post. i'm starting to ponder/look at/explore the 996. thanks for the great info.

POST 5Original post

I sure hope the 02 996s don't get to 45k anytime soon. That would make my 00 worth less than a pristine example of a 87 to 89 Carrera cab or wide body. 996s are great cars and even given the RMS issues and the headlights no one likes, I can't understand why the prices are dropping so quickly. I had a dealer ask me 12k boot for my really well equipped extra clean 996 coupe for his 98 993 cab with about the same mileage. It was not equipped as well as mine either.

POST 6Original post

I'm trying to move my cab if anyone is intersted.
