Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used my PCA card for a small discount at local dealer.

Suggestion

"An02Boxster": I had the same symptoms you are describing - radio stayed on, key remotes wouldn't work, etc....I think my dealer said the ignition pieces and labor were not supposed to be covered under warranty, but I had only bought the car 6 weeks before running into this problem, so with some mild pressure from me, they took care of it - if anyone has this done, I would definitely ask first and take it to an independent shop if the dealer won't cover it.

Suggestion

I'm taking my 2000 Cab in for the same thing - will let you know what the dealer does/says, as the keys light up and so does the small dome on the dashboard, so they're "talking" but nothing is happening - in the meantime, you can manually lock your car and activate the alarm by doing the following: insert the key in the drivers side, and turn (I think it's clockwise) three times - I read in the manual that this is the backup to set the system.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car won't lock remotely. Key flashes but doors won't lock/unlock. Is there a trick? Thanks Len

POST 2Original post

Is the battery on its last legs?...i.e., just enough to light the LED but not enough ooomph to transmit?

POST 3Original post

Is there dirt in the memory seat buttons and/or the engine cover/hood buttons? Try cleaning them out (even blowing in them might help) and try it again. Sounds crazy, but it's a common problem. The dirt screws up the switches and causes all of the locking/unlocking functions to work wrong (or not work at all).

On the first turn, you should hear the driver's side lock with a beep, on the second turn, you'll hear nothing, and on the third turn, you should hear the passenger side lock and the alarm should be activated - short term fix, I know, but I'll be taking to the dealer soon for the permanent fix...

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the help. Mine is a '99 so I don't have switches but levers instead. Those were locked this morning when I tried to open the engine. I had to close the door manually lock it and unlock it then the levers would move. My son said it would work for him sometimes on the way down from PA. But I have not seen them work yet with the remote.

POST 6Original post

I don't know if this is your issue, but here is mine (dropped the car off this morning) - they switched out the ignition, as there was a glitch with a sensor and the car thought the key was still in the ignition - therefore, when pushing the key, it would be the same response as if you pushed it while driving: the key will light up, but your car won't do anything - for me, the car is CPO, so it's covered under warranty - I can't give you the cost. Judging from the above responses, you could have any of these issues. Hope this helps.

POST 7Original post

I have the same problem..my remote won't lock..key flikkers....can lock the car normal...mine is a 99 996 cab....if they have to change out the ignition lock.. I am wondering if my extended warranty covers this? will find out when I bring it in for the 60K service...in 1500 miles

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had ignition issue on my Boxter also but when the car thought that the key was still in the ignition the radio would continue to play and you could not lock it. Are these your symtons too? Len

POST 9Original post

If ignition is the problem, it is likely the back piece, which is a part common to Audi and VW. I bought one for a few bucks, can't recall exactly. It's a DYI if you can lay on your back across the door sill and see in low light. At my age it was very difficult and only stubborness and pride kept kept me from taking to my mechanic.

POST 10Original post

Had same deal with '99 C4, the fob flashed but nothing, I tried all the stuff in the owners manual and other stuff listed on the board, ended up paying $150 for the new key head, $50 in labor charges to program the thing and all is fine. I used my PCA card for a small discount at local dealer.
