Anyway, today I went to a local Porsche speedshop and was talking to the gentlemen there and they recommended the 996 instead of the 928.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all.... I have been looking for a 928 for the last few months and have been recommended by many not to get a 928. Mainly because of the costs involved in maintanence and upkeep. But there are many 928 Rennlisters that love their cars. Anyway, today I went to a local Porsche speedshop and was talking to the gentlemen there and they recommended the 996 instead of the 928. Now after researching the 928 for so long, I know that Timing belt change is imperative between 40-60k miles and there are other issues with this car. What are the service items to consider with the 996 (1999 or 2000 model year) if I decide to purchase one? Just trying to do enough research so I can make the right purchase decision.

POST 2Original post

Sorry, but if you do a search on the 99-2000 problems you will find your answers. Than you can buy one and start having the best time of your life. There are some Porsche model years that are better than others but there arnt any that are not worth having. I hope that reads well I just got back from an extended happy hour. Good luck and when you buy......POST pictures
