Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good morning everyone, I was wondering if it is possible to purchase a transaxle either new or rebuilt and if anyone can recommend a source, or is it better rebuild the one I have. I called the local porsche dealer and they didnt really help. I ask because I have a noise coming from my differential/axle area (I recently banged my wheel against the curb and now there is a noise) and so far the wheel bearing has been ruled out. I did a search and I keep reading comments that the transmission and transaxle are not serviceable, but I didnt find anything in regards to the differential. Kind of lost, can use some direction. TIA Peter

POST 2Original post

Peter, three sources 1. Salvage yard, try Oklahoma foreign, they specialize in porsche 2.Guard Transmission [phone removed], they do all kinds of hard core race and street stuff for porsches 3.(best choice) Powerhaus II [phone removed], www.porschegears.com , they recently started rebuilding trannies(996) and the like.
