Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Should I or can I rebuild or just replace with a new unit, and where to source for parts.

LSD is inside the diff of course and with my car at least it is usually paired with traction control which uses a brake circuit to activate it plus a wiring harness and switch- not easy
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So what we thought was a bad wheel bearing because I wacked the right rear rim on the curb hard enough to damage the wheel, turns out to be the differential instead. We had the right rear wheel removed, the axle removed then tested by spinning the the left wheel while holding the hub (not sure what it is called) where the axle of the right wheel attaches and the differential was making a whirring sound. Now my question. Should I or can I rebuild or just replace with a new unit, and where to source for parts. The car is currently up on racks and is just waiting for the parts. Also what am i looking at in terms of cost for rebuilding my existing diff. versus replacing with new or rebuilt?
Thanx,
Peter
I'd look at buying one from a wrecked 911 rather than rebuilding it. You can probably get one from a wrecked car for the same or less than the parts will cost you, plus you won't have to open up the unit and muck with it.
Can you have your insurance cover this since it's a collision and not a mechanical failure? That'd be the best way to fix this. If not, a used one is OK but I'd think that's not cheap either bc of disassembly cost in removing the diff from the wrecked car before getting the diff to you.
Thanx all, i was wondering if i can I replace my differential with a LSD type, I hear those are readily available Quaife, Guard...! I do not have PSM as my car is 99 C2. Also does the LSD replace the existing diff i have or is it in addition to the stock diff.I have been doing a search and cant find anyone who sells replacement diffs. (havent checked wrecking yards though). I havent called the dealer yet (last resort), but I wonder if they even sell the part. I really am surprised that replacement parts are not more readily available. Now to think that I have to possibly put a used part from a wrecked car, maybe just my feeelings, but it doesnt seem right.
