Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there, I am from the 911 forum, and I am looking to buy a 996 soon. I had done quite a bit of research on this a while ago and had test-driven some cars. I am from Jersey City and am on the verge of finalising a car in Boston, MA. I have visually inspected the car for damages, dents etc and it looks clean. The interior was well maintained as well. Electrics worked fine. http://websterusedcars.com/vehicles/...che+911+365614 The car doesn't have any record of IMS/RMS to date. The clutch seems to be original as well. Interior and exterior are very good, no dents or scratches. The carfax report documents services, oil changes etc, but has nothing regarding the IMS/RMS issue. In some other cars' reports, I have seen an RMS fix reported as "Rear crankshaft oil seal". Hope I'm right with that one. As per the dealer, the car was last worked upon by the Porsche/Audi dealer in that area and the mechanic had deemed the car to be very good. (Can't take this for a word - as with most dealers) Does this look like a good deal, or am I missing some crucial point here? Of course I would be getting a PPI done before I take the big step, but I just wanted to run it across you guys. Thanks Shyam

POST 2Original post

Hi There, That is a 91K mile car you are looking at. $19K may be overpriced due to the lack of preventative maintenance... After all the work I have done to my car mechanically, I believe the market would pay no more than $19K for my car IMHO. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...with-pics.html Winter is here and I think you have a better negotiating power than you think.

POST 3Original post

Also looks to be a lighly optioned car. No Xenons...etc FWIW

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have an low-mileage 86 Carrera at the moment which I would like to sell, hopefully before I end up buying a 996. I was out 996-hunting a few months back too, but wasn't sure if I really wanted to sell the 911. Even now I am still not 100% ok with doing away with the 911, but I do want to own a 996 In general, is the jump in the maintenance costs significant between the two? I checked some other cars through autotrader and looked up the values through kbb. All of them seem to be overpriced. Given that I will be haggling for the price, how much do you reckon this 996 is worth? Also, I have heard that if IMS rarely occurs on high-mileage cars. Is that true statistically? Assuming a regular 100k maintenance in the near future, would all the stuff that Chao had done on his car need to be addressed and how much would the expense end up to be? (ballpark estimates..) I have a couple of other cars also in mind.. ones that have done 60k miles ~$23000 (again overpriced, but it should be negotiable). Clutch assembly replaced, RMS work done. No mention about IMS though. That piece is at: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false Chao - you had quite a lot of work done on your car

POST 5Original post

I'm not an expert on resale values but $19k seems a bit high. I bought my 99 996 a year ago with 51k miles, original owner and mint throughout for $19k. The car had full leather interior and FabSpeed exhaust. All manintenance was done by the local Porsche dealership and the book stamped appropriately. I believe you can do better for $19k. Good luck!

two of the many that I read when I was researching and shopping around: http://www.excellence-mag.com/resour...ide/1041874889 http://www.edmunds.com/porsche/911/history.html after much deliberation, I opted to go with 02-up. Best of luck with your quest for a 996.

POST 7Original post

We just got this listing last week, car is being privately sold in NY - http://globalautosports.com/car/2003...upe-42391.html

POST 8Original post

I searched around for two months before finding my '01 996. Got it in Boston proper from a private seller and negotiated down $2k. Agree with comments on options and timing. The Ct. car is def. overpriced. Jorge

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Back in 2009 when I bought my 911, I had negotiated the price down $4k. It was quite overpriced back then. But that's a 911, this ones' a 996 :P I have put in an advert in the classifieds section for my 911. All depends on it. I'll wait and definitely take all your suggestions.
