Targa roof is stuck, all jammed up -- has not been used for 12 months and will only open with a push -- so it will require some stripping/cleaning and lubrication.

Also, the PDF is most helpful because it tells me a bit about how to expose the drive cables which I will have to free up and lubricate (I expect).

Please guide me to a workshop manual for a 2002 996, The whole manual waould be good but the Targa roof parts are what I require at the moment. Not a "true" workshop manual with step by step guides, but there is lots of very technical info on the targa roof and it's systems in the after sales hard roof/body systems PDF available for download on renntech.org if you are a contributing member there. Thanks for the referral to Renntech, I am a member there so I have been able to download that PDF file on the Targa roof, very helpful, explains a lot of of the construction etc, but still does not show or give directions about how to remove the curtain, and it is almost a Catch-22, you can't see behind the curtain to work out how to get it out because it is a very effective curtain, The said PDF file shows that it "clips" in along the top edge so perhaps I will get something sharp and flat and see if I can get underneath it and pry it out, but if I do my usual trick I will do more damage than good, but in any event it needs to be done . That's the most comprehensive guide I've seen available for the end user. Those that own the genuine workshop manuals of later model years might have more information, however those are not available for download anywhere that I have seen. There is a very small amount of info on the Targa in the early 996 work shop manual (available for download). Not nearly as much as in the after sales training manual.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
