I used silicone and was able to just remove one of the bezels for a cleaning project and remove the silicone then re-apply--no damage.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have read on previous posts not to use the Krazy glue to mount the aluminum bezels. I believe there were other suggestions such as 2-sided tape or silicone. Can anyone tell me if the tape should be thick like a foam tape or thin like a scotch tape or what kind of silicone to use. I like the idea of tape b/c I think it would be easier to remove the rings if I wanted to change them back. I guess with silicone it might be impossible to do that as the adhesive would destroy the finish on the black bezels. Thanx for any advise you can offer.
silcone adhesive will not destroy your bezels. I used silicone and was able to just remove one of the bezels for a cleaning project and remove the silicone then re-apply--no damage. Besides, I don't think you are going to want to go back to w/o them. They are a great addition to the interior.
I doubt that the tape will work. I tried the thin double side tape and it was useless. The foam tape may work but I think silicon would hold it better.
Silicone is the only way to go, superglue will f- up your faces if it gets messy, ask me how I know. I too tried the two sided tape, total cluster-f. Re sureglue,if it does get messy, clean immed with acetone, armourall works great on any remaining residue.
OK So I bought the silicone and put the tach on 1st . Comes out great- the silicone is the way to go. I noticed the inside edge is a little rough but I don't think much about it. I put the speedo is next and it doesn't fit quite right. It's the right size but the shape is a little off so the bottom of the ring sticks out a little. I pull the oil pressure/fuel gauge ring out and it is badly scratched..THAT"S IT--I"M DONE-- I pull it all off-clean up the gauges and all is well. Going to send them back. These are not P-parts. I bought them at brindywine for $104. cheap yes?--Cheap yes!! i have never sent anything back b/4. I hope brandywine won't hassel me! I have no reason to think so we'll see!!!!
Mundman - That sucks... BIG time!
Don't you just hate it when you are all set do something to the P-car and you find out that you have the wrong part or that you are missing a piece? I doubt very seriously that Brandywine will give you any hassles about returning the imitation P-car parts. Good Luck!
I have the porsche tequipment ones(from fvd), they fit just as crappy, make sure you didn't mount the tach upside down, as that wil make the others fit poorly.
Try sticky-Tac, the stuff kids use for tacking papers to the wall, doors, ceiling, etc. Comes in a rainbow of colors. Take a tiny droplet, roll between fingers, place 3 along leach eading gage edge, press bezel, presto! Your done. Comes right off by just pulling hard. Doesnt damage anything.
Test fitting and polishing them with fine steel wool is key before installing them!
Performance Products has them in stainless - they look higher quality than the alum ones.
Definitely a nice upgrade on black-faced gauges.
We sell the oem version, and every set goes out with a full sheet of instructions. Can't understand why others are selling without any info. Sucks.
Silicone works well, as does thin double sided tape (not the foam backed). 3M for the tape, GE for the silicone. Always dry fit first. Steel wool '0000' grade works well to clean 'em up first.
Cheers!

I called Justin at Brandywine and he will take the bezels back however he will charge me for Ebay and Paypal fees. I told him I could live with that but it kinda left a strange taste in my mouth being an upscale dealer and the fact that I am a repeat cust. He also informed me that there are no OEM rings! You have to replace the cluster if you are buying from Porsche. So what is Eric @ bumperplugs or FVD selling? They bill it as OEM. I must be missing something. I Fedexed them back today.
The superior aspect of Silicone is that it can be cleaned up with plain old rubbing (Isopropyl) alcohol. If you ever decide to remove the rings, the dried silicone can be completely removed with no residue at all.
BTW this is the preferred way to remove old silicone calking from the bathroom or kitchen sink area as well.
mine were from Brandywine and they were 95% there. a small scratch on the Tach, but given where these sit, the relative lack of light and the familiarity that quickly takes over, the eyes don't notice anything - i have no complaints at all.
i used the crazy glue as per the instructions and had no problems
I bought a set of bezels from FVD. Was not thrilled about using the crazy glue or anything permanent in case it got on any of the gauge faces. I tried double face tape, but it was difficult to cut thin strips and it just didn't stick well at all. Didn't think about silicone adhesive, so I went ahead with the glue provided by FVD. I do wonder about how well the silicone adhesive will hold up over time. After all, if it's safer, why don't the companies that sell the rings ever recommend it?
When I went to install the rings, the first thing I did was to cut out templates of the gauge faces using thin card board to protect them. Used the double faced tape to secure them. I then covered everything around the dash area to protect it in case I dripped glue. When it came time to put the rings on, i would do "dry runs" of putting the rings on to get an idea of how my hands and arms moved around the steering wheel. Once the glue is on the rings, you have very little time to get them on the gauge rims. After all that, I'd put a thin bead of glue on the rings, placed them on the gauges and it turned out great, no drips or smudges at all.
Btw, although it seems that the majority of pcar owners go with the aluminum rings, I put chrome rings on and they look great. It's more of a classic gauge look.
