Aquygen's technology was invented before 1997 and only used 4 ounces of water to travel 100 miles in a Ford Focus.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Aquygen's technology was invented before 1997 and only used 4 ounces of water to travel 100 miles in a Ford Focus. we can see products for our cars in as little time as two years.
Next round of public financing is only $10 million dollars.
Why are you skeptical of technological innovations/breakthroughs? The fact that the company already has contracts with Lockheed, Diamler Chrysler, General Dynamics, NASA and US Gvt (to build a Hydrogen Hummer) makes your comment sound ignorant.
Gotta love the guy shuffling through his hand written index cards! I think if you look closely the last card says "buy a black berry when this thing takes off"...not sure, but I think so...
I believe if the technology is that promising and was invented over 10 years ago, he should be driving around in a porsche hydro-car by now.
I have a little knowledge of these guys and this space and it's generally agreed that these guys are crackpots. While I hesitate to rely on any data from Wikipedia, they state it pretty well:
"The firm Hydrogen Technology Applications (HTA) has trademarked oxyhydrogen as Aquygen. HTA's founder Dennis Klein holds a patent for an electrolyzer design which states that it differs from Yull Brown's torch patents in that it lacks an electric arc feature.
The claimed applications of HHO and Aquygen are practically indistinguishable from the original claims of Yull Brown. The HHO trademark is associated with an unproven state of matter called magnegases, and a discredited theory about magnecules, which is the basis for a number of fraudulent claims, and third party water-fuelled car scam attempts."
... NNH has reason to be sceptical. Just because someone is sceptical doens't make them wrong. Remember, several of us are scientists and if it hadn't been said sooner I'd be laughing my *** off at these guys and mocking them.
Hydrogen fuel cells are a worthy goal and a lot of research dollars are going towards making viable cells.... we are a long long way from a cell that will be viable in a car.
I'm sceptical because
1) The energy required to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen is the same as the energy that can be liberated by combining hydrogen and oxygen to make water. Once parasitic losses are taken into account, there is a net energy loss. Anything else would be perpetual motion (ie impossible).
2) Even if you accept this loss and generate hydrogen at home using electricity, to power your vehicle, the numbers are implausible: 4 ounces of water contain about half an ounce of hydrogen. By comparison, even driving very economically, a Focus would need 2-3 gallons (~12-18 pounds) of gas to cover 100 miles. So I don't believe the "4 ounces" bit either.
Alright I don't often get into these types of discussions, but this one is one that I have done some personal research on myself. So if you really do not think that this is possible, guess again. It has already been done. Check out Stan Meyers work and you will all see what I am talking about. This is a person that was so good at perfecting this tech, that he was killed for it. This is a very innovative work that has been put down time and again. I would not be too surprised if that company that was featured on the news is gone now.
It is for real though.
Just my .02
There is a difference between demonstrating a concept and making a commercially viable vehicle. There is no dispute that it can be done, the devil is in the details of getting it into vehicles that are able to meet the demands of everyday use, do not weigh a ton and are economically feasible.
There's a huge gap between the former and the latter.
..must... resist... urge.....to rant.....
ok, what makes me furious is that these charltons have no shame. Fuel cells are nothing new, but this is not the same kind of claim.
What Wellardmac said x100.
Look up the hafnium bomb sometime for entertainment.
You do that.. I think I'll fashion a hat out of some of that Hafnium that i just bought on e-bay.

Doh! Are those black helicopters outside??
My understanding with Fuel cells is that the technology cannot be put into a vehicle platform yet. There is a company in CT that is using the technology for powering buildings and industries.

I posted the thread because I thought they made a break through in their application with automobiles. I didn't know it would open up a big can of worms.
Some of the key issues for alternatives to internal combustion engine are:
- Maximum power delivery. For a useful vehicle, the power system needs to be able to deploy at least (say) 100hp = 75kW. This is a problem for some electrical systems, and would require a big fuel cell
- Energy density. Unleaded gas contains a lot of energy is a small volume and mass. Gaseous fuels (hydrogen, LPG, etc) require heavy compression systems, ultra-low temperatures, or unproven technologies like hydride compounds. Batteries are still quite heavy and bulky.
- Efficiency across different operating regimes. IC engines are fairly good at low speeds, high speeds, and all points in-between. Other technologies (gas turbines, batteries, etc) are often strongly optimised for particular power levels.
- Weight and bulk. An IC engine plus fuel system weighs a few hundred pounds, and can be fitted into a fairly small space (e.g. the Incredible Invisible Boxster Engine). Not all technologies have the same advantage, though pure electric power offers a lot of packaging flexibility.
None of this means that there are no serious alternatives to the IC/diesel engine, but the challenges above are considerable.
Personally, I think the 5-10 year optimal solution will be a plug-in hybrid high-boost turbodiesel, because diesel engines are very efficient on the highway, while a decent hybrid system is good in town. Diesels already come with hefty starter motors, so the weight penalty for the motor/generator/starter is small, while the electric motor should be able to compensate for the turbo lag nature of a heavily blown motor. Comments/ideas?
Simon,
your comments above certainly gives me an insight into why diesel generators are used to power electric motors found in locomotives and submarines. Constant power output in those applications makes it efficient where cars need to vary their speeds more often.
Well summarized. I hadn't thought of the turbodiesel hybrid, but it is a local one. I envisage that Europe will head in that direction, as that market is dominated by diesel engines, but is moving towards hybrids for the reason of reducing carbon footprints.
I was driving by a locomotive manufacturing plant in Montreal filled locomotives with GE logos painted on the side. Did not take a picture but I remembered it with diesel hybrid wording or something like that. It was fancy to say the least.
Friend of mine works for GE's railway leasing division. He tells me that the hybrid technology is perfect for the locomotive application because the weight penalty of all those batteries is trivial compared to a fully loaded train, while the intense duty cycle of a locomotive means the return on the asset is very quick.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
