Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also use mine..............but after a long run, driving 75 MPH or so for a 100 miles, when I use the gauge it shows low but the dip stick shows normal.

So when at the shop I asked the tech to check the oil and saw he only used the bar gauge.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Though, my elec gauge is accurate, I still love the dipstick and check it often as an assurance that my gauge is properly working.... guess Im old school.
Every morning I checked the dip stick before I started her up. Then I would go out to the garage to check the electronic oil gauge in the car, too.
OK, OK... I checked the electronic oil gauge every morning, prior to starting the car.
Not sure I trust my electronic gauge - it has always showed full, all bars, but my dipstick indicates right in the middle. Personally, I trust the dipstick.
Has anyone else seen this inconsitency?
I almost always get a low reading when I do the gas station check - in fact I now ignore it at this point and only take notice after a cold/cool start when the car has sat for a while.
Seems accurate at that point - although I always defer to the actual dip stick for the final reading.
I had been using both the dipstick and the bar gauge. I became concerned when after 6,000 miles since the last change the dipstick showed no drop in oil level and the bar gauge was almost always at the top or at worse one bar below. So when at the shop I asked the tech to check the oil and saw he only used the bar gauge. I asked him why he didn't use the dipstick and he said the bar gauge is accurate and since 997's don't even have a dipstick he only uses the gauge. Good news is I don't have an oil use problem.
he even quoted the 1 quart in 600 miles as normal use.
Everytime (except when it the timer shows 54:24). If I would have waited 5 years for a 997 I would not even have a choice but to use the electronic guage.
