Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently purchased a 996 and I was trying to remove the MAF sensor. I opened the rear hood (trunk) to access engine but it would stay up for a few seconds and then slowly go down and then slam shut if I was not physically holding it. Is there a bar or mechanism to keep the rear hood/ trunk open while working on then engine compartment???

POST 2Original post

My guess is the strut is worn out. It's on the right side of the lid and connects the lid to the car just right of the air filter housing.

POST 3Original post

There is strut you need to replace if it's worn out.

POST 4Original post

it's funny that there's setup for both side to put in strust, porsche sure knows cost cutting!

One strut is enough for the C2 lid. C4S, with the heavier/wider lid, uses both of them.

POST 7Original post

Funny to see this thread. Same problem and I just replaced mine last night on an '03 29k miles. It's all good now. $35.xx from Sunset.
