Next , I shook each muffler and used my own rubber mallet, carefully tapping and listening for any internal noises, there are none.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

In the spirit of the Holidays I am temporarily lowering the price on the used PSE I have for sale. I had them for sale at $700 + shipping, but for the next week only I am offering them for $500 with ups ground shipping INCLUDED in the continental US only. This is being offered on Rennlist only.
PM or email with any questions, please see my ad in the classifieds for details.
Doug,
I've read a number of your posts concerning your problems with the PSE mufflers - "rattles like a beer can" etc... - are these those? Not interested if they are...
Thanks
pre64,
I know Doug and his car, he wouldn't sell you junk. Don't worry about it. He is offering a tremendous deal on an item that is not available 'new' anywhere for that application. If you want a PSE at a good price(1000$+ off) go for it.
Chris
That rattling (beer can sound) turned out to be the heat shield, as I told you. If you don't want them I'm not going to twist your arm, I'm not trying to rip anyone off. Let me know if you want them or not.
In an effort to clear the air and answer any possible questions about the PSE I am currently selling I just completed a thorough examination of the mufflers. As some of you may recall I had experienced some annoying rattling from one of the mufflers, a cursory exam at the dealership (pounding on the muffler with a rubber mallet) found a loose heat shield and other mysterious sounds thought to possibly be another loose heat shield, broken exhaust tip or possibly a valve. For those of you unfamiliar with PSE they have a vacuum controlled valve operated by external actuator arms and levers which close the bypass channel, this valve defaults to the open position.
I explored both valves with a probe and they are competent and tight and function in the normal fashion. Next , I shook each muffler and used my own rubber mallet, carefully tapping and listening for any internal noises, there are none. Finally, I found the likely source of the noise (in addition to the known heat shields). As it turns out the (externally located) vacuum controlled actuator arms on both sides have enough play in them to cause a very mild rattle when moved. There is nothing to tighten, this is a result of the design of the arm and lever assembly, IMO 100% of PSE mufflers have this problem. I sprayed them liberally with WD40 and there was some improvement, a thicker lube would probably eliminate the noise. Alternatively, they appear to be held to the muffler with three small nuts, possibly they can simply be removed. End of story, mystery solved. Bottom line, the mufflers are fine and they are a hell of a deal.
Why did I do all this you might ask, because I have been a contributing Rennlist Member for years and I value my reputation on this board.
I bought the PSE from Doug and it came exactly as described in great condidtion. I got it installed on Monday and am absolutely loving it!
Its already been mentioned a 100 times on the forum, but the sound is incredible at WOT. The great thing is they aren't much louder than stock below 3k and partial throttle so noise is not an issue in the neighborhood. I did not get the deactivation switch installed. Definitely a highly recommended upgrade -- probably 2nd best right behind the short shifter.
