Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The concealed display installed on the steering column is the way to go (can quickly look down slightly to see it, and the mute button is within easy reach), so you'll need to run the wires any way.

If yes , you would still need to run the wire anyways....

I have seen a number of posts about running the wiring around the window frame into the console and using a connection meant for a phone install.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just bought an 03 C4 Cab and I am about to install the wiring for a Valentine 1. I have seen a number of posts about running the wiring around the window frame into the console and using a connection meant for a phone install. However, is it possible to simply connect into a switched connection somewhere in the overhead light? If so, is there a specific wire that I should be looking for?
BTW, I did the around the window to fuse box install in my Cayenne, usiing an unused switched connection. Does anyone know of a similar, open switched connection in the 03 996 fuse box?
Thanks,
The concealed display installed on the steering column is the way to go (can quickly look down slightly to see it, and the mute button is within easy reach), so you'll need to run the wires any way. Here's a thread with pix of my install. We tapped into a switched power source at the fuse panel.

I think above the steering colum is a bit obvious the thief and cops to spot.
I took out the cd holder tray and fabricate a face plate and have it there. nice and flush.
the drawback is that it's not as visible . oh well.
To answer your question, yes you can connect it to the lighting wire inside the console I simly cut off the end of the detector's power wire and connected it to the live wire in the console and to the grounding screw that is also in there. It is a switched connection so the detector will only be one when the ignition is on.
I used this add-a-fuse thing in the link below. You just gotta find a fuse that turns off when the car is off, and then you are good to go....

All, thank you for all the help. I think I know what I need to do now. I am not going to use the remote so I will probably mount this one on the windshield with the suction cups. I really appreciate your help.
I used the sun visor clip instead of the suction cups--it's much more stable and also less visible from the outside since there are no suction cup marks on the windshield. See the link in my post above for details/pix.
I'd also suggest you reconsider the concealed display--it's really very useful.
