Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Check car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I guess "she" is broke but I do want someone with an 03 Tip to check for me (perhaps it was a design change).

Someone should tell BMW that every other manufacturer has solved that problem by making you put the key in the "run" position.

I do have to use the shift lever to engage into the other gears with the no key in the ignition.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Would you know why I can shift into Drive and Reverse with out keys in the ignition (engine off)? I have to put the gear back in "D" to start the car though.
What is the theory behind this? All the other cars I have owned would not let me shift into any gear unless the engine is running.
I guess you meant that you have to shift into "P" not "D" to start the car? I never drove a Porsche with tip but my BMW steptronic allows me to shift without key into "R", "N" and "D". The reason behind it is that you need to be able to tow or push the car in "N" and the only way to "N" leads over "R"; at least on the BMW.
I just checked my car. The button on top of the shifter can not be pushed down with no key in the ignition and so the shifter can't be moved out of P. It would appear that the solenoid is either in or under the shifter and it isn't working in your car.
Hwk you are right. I have it put it into "P"ark to start. Having said that I cannot move the lever into any position on my BMW unless the engine is running. Go figure....
