POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Crutchfield is having an all-out inventory clearance on BRAND NEW Harman Kardon Traffic Pro systems. They have Amber & Green displays in stock. The old price was $1499, now it's only $449!!! What a deal! http://www.crutchfield.com/S-cq0bSDQ...&avf=N&search=

POST 2Original post

It normally costs $499 there. What's the big deal?

POST 3Original post

Is this the same as the Becker Traffic Pro? Also, for those that have the traffic pro, which display color did you get? TIA

POST 5Original post

TOMDEG, MY03+ Porsches are using the MOST (plastic fiber optic) bus to connect the headunit to amp to CDChanger back to headunit (it's a ring)....therefore this headunit will not work in such a car. Do a search for "MOST" or "fiber" in the 996 or Cayenne forums and you'll get more details if you like.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In response: 1. $449 has only recently been the price as they are clearing out the Traffic Pro to make way for the new Traffic Pro II. The original price for over 2 years has been $1499. 2. It is a single DIN unit and as such is a direct replacement for all Porsches MY02 or before. 3. You can use it in your MY03+ MOST equipped car as long as you plan on replacing the amp and CD changer along with the head unit. For most people, if you are replacing the head unit, you are more than likely going to swap out amps, speakers, etc... anyway. 4. This is the exact same thing as a Becker Traffic Pro. Becker is owned by Harman International. In the U.S., Becker does not have a widely recognizable brand so the marketing people decided to use the name Harman Kardon. In fact, this unit is available with a "Porsche" logo on it through a factory dealer. However, it will cost upwards of $1500 or more. Porsche part no: 000 044 900 78. Also requires GPS Antenna, part no. 996 612 970 01.

POST 7Original post

The unit has been for sale for $499 for most of this year: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ld+traffic+pro So it's really only a reduction in $50. But I guess they're getting rid of them for the Traffic Pro II.

POST 8Original post

Will the new Traffic Pro II work in 99-02 996 models? I know the current is a direct replacement, how about the new Traffic Pro II?

POST 9Original post

Yeah, I'd like to know if TP2 can be used on an 02 just like the orig. TP. TIA

POST 10Original post

is this navigation built in system? do i get navi function with this system? is there other parts i have to install with this unit?

POST 11Original post

Does anyone know if you can use the trafficpro just as nav unit and keep current head unit? Thanks.

POST 12Original post

I have a Traffic Pro in my 02 Cab and it works really well. I have enabled the AUX-in function of it to use my iPod, so I keep the navigation CD in the head unit slot all the time. Traffic Pro radios are much like the CDR-220 radio for audio functionality, but I think they sound better, and the FM tuner seems to have better sensitivity. What the Traffic Pro adds is navigation capabilities with prompting from its screen as well as voice prompts in male or female voices in several languages. It comes with a GPS antenna that is installed under the little cover in between the defroster vents. It also has a nifty compass and can tell you where you are at all times even if you are not following a route. The Unit is completely plug compatible with the CDR-220 and will work just fine in all non-MOST bus cars. $450 is a good price for the generic model. The Traffic Pro II does not seem to add that much new functionality except that it probably has a faster processor. The current Traffic Pro is not that slow in calculating a route, so I'm not convinced that the new one is worth waiting for.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

TP-II is the same Single DIN size as the "old" TP, so it will fit just the same in pre-MOST cars. V8 - The TrafficPro comes with all necessary parts, assuming you are putting it in a standard single-DIN space. The GPS antenna cord is only 6' long, so depending on what car you are putting it into, you may need to extend it. Mitch - It doesn't make much sense to me to have a traffic pro as a nav system while still having another head unit. If you want to keep your head unit, I would add the Pioneer touchscreen nav system. Reus Systems does this all day long... Orient Express is correct in saying that TP-II is not very different. The main difference is a faster processor and 16MB of memory instead of 8MB. There may be some improvement to audio/sound functions, but few details are really known at this point. However, after having a quick chat with Rick Reus, he said that while the CDR-220 is a "decent" head unit, the TrafficPro is just "mediocre" with respect to sound reproduction. Specifcally, he mentioned that the highs are too harsh. However, you must take Reus's opinions with a grain of salt... To be fair, 9 out of 10 people could never tell the difference in sound quality between a $100 Sony unit and a $1000 McIntosh head unit, so his opinion of sound quality only applies to a select few people who are audio nuts. Moreover, if you WERE an audio nut, you wouldn't have a CDR-220 or a Traffic Pro anyway!

POST 14Original post

If you have the cd changer with the Porsche does it work with that to control the changer as the factory head unit or is some new fix needed. Md_out

POST 15Original post

Traffic Pro also can control the Porsche CD changer. I have that in mine and XM Radio transmitted to the FM section (not FM modulated through the antenna)

POST 16Original post

i have few more questions to TP users. 1. when you turn on your radio does it say "porsche" like factory unit? 2. i have factory cd changer, will this work with TP? 3. do i have to cut any wires to install TP in my 99 c2 or is this completely plug and play unit? 4. where do i put the GPS antana in 996? do i have to wire it throught the roof or just put it inside the dash board near the radio? 5. do i need special tool to remove factory single din unit?

POST 17Original post

Answers: 1. Yes 2. Yes 3. No - but you do have to add one wire into the middle connector from the reverse signal lead that is located under the drivers seat. If you have an auto dimming mirror, you can take the signal from that lead. 4. The GPS antenna lives under the little cover that is between the defroster ducts on top of the dash. There is a little plate under there, that is held in with 2 torx screws. The plate must be taken out to feed the GPS antenna cable down to where the radio is. Installing the antenna is a little awkward, but not really that hard. 5. Standard european radio removal keys work just fine. As a note there is a cable kit available from Becker/Harman Kardon that allows the use of the AUX-IN feature of this radio with your iPod or MP3 player. This kit is about $20 shipped, and includes removal keys. Here are some notes on the installation of the Traffic Pro Radio

POST 18Original post

Mine does NOT say Porsche..it says Traffic Pro

POST 19Original post

If it is a Porsche branded Unit, It will say Porsche, if it is a Harmon/Kardon branded unit it will say Traffic Pro. Mine is a Porsche branded unit. Sorry for not making that clear.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tell us more about how this XM tuner is integrated into your system. I've been wanting an XM tuner for a long time but I didn't want to FM modulate.

POST 21Original post

Here is what I have: http://www.xmradio.com/roady/ Best Buy may have it for less. The Roady comes with an FM wireless adaptor so I guess it is FM modulated in a way but it does not use up the aux function so you could still do a CD changer (which put in myself), ipod etc. It has integrated into the cigarette lighter connector a small FM transmitter and you can chose from 6 FM frequencies to sent the signal to. I direct wired a Radio Shack 3-outlet cigarette power outlet unit to the battery, ran it to behind the console on the tunnel and connected the Roady FM adaptor/power supply to it along with a Nokia cell phone power supply. I still have one outlet available for radar etc. Ran the wires for the Roady to behind my 4-CD holder which I don't use, velcroed the Roady mounting unit to the CD holder and the phone line behind the right side console panel. It sticks out at the lower right corner of the console to power the phone. There are NO plugs going into the stock cigarette lighter, the whole install is very nice. The Roady has a mount which is essentially a permanent mount but the Roady head can be clipped out to take inside or to another car. I ran the XM antenna (the Roady antenna is small) parallel to the Traffic Pro antenna, taking it up through the cover base and mounting it just to the right of the cover at the front of the dash covering the GPS antenna. Reception has been fine. XM also has a Commander which looks nice but not sure if it can use or comes with the FM transmitter, small antenna or can be removed for home stereo use. Except for the Roady, I think all the other antennas are comparatively "clunky." I'm happy with my setup...

POST 22Original post

I have an 01 with DSP and a CD changer, are you guys telling me I can install a Traffic Pro myself for $450? If so I am ordering one today.

POST 23Original post

I have an 01 with DSP and CD changer. I have the traffic pro and paid $1500 for the Porsche unit installed it myself VERY EASY, and I have the connector from Becker so that my Cell phone works hands free through the unit. When I make a call or a call comes in the unit mutes and the sound comes through the speakers VERY NICE!

POST 24Original post

what color (Green, Amber, or Red) display did you guys choose?

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes the TrafficPro is fully compatible with your setup Husky. If you are swapping out a Becker CDR-220, it will be relatively plug and play. However, you still need to find a speed lead and reverse light lead - this is the more challenging part (unless Porsche already pre-wired these near the radio). Anyone know about this? The antenna is tiny and can be placed in the center of the dash near the defroster.

POST 27Original post

Ordered mine today from Crutchfield in amber (matches rest of dash lights)$449 total cost, will be here Monday, I'll post installation progress and results.

POST 28Original post

I got mine from Crutchfield yesterday. Installed it in my 02 Cab and replaced the CR-220. I do have upgrade BOSE sound system in my car from factory with BOSE Amp and Speakers. Easy Install, remove the factory radio and unplug all cables in the back. Install the GPS Antenna on passenger side Dash with clear view of the sky, run the wires underneath the glove box and onto the middle console. Plug all the connectors back, however, run into few problems. Problems run into: 1. No Sound at first - but I had to run a jumper cable from A-5 to C1-6, that is the cable for Amplifier Control. After I did that, Sounds works great. 2. Now I need to figure out how to run a cable from the reverse sensor... Any ideas??? Radio, CD Changer and AMP are working great, but NAV still isn't working until I hook up the Reverse Sensing Wire to the Radio. Do I run a cable to shifter boot and look for Reverse Sensor switch there and hook it up to it?

POST 29Original post

I've never hooked up my reverse sensor and no problems so far..some others have said no big problem unless you are in reverse alot. I believe the sensor is under the driver's seat. Previous posts on this subject detail it more. I had no sound at first until I made that jumper move. Intuitive isn't it! ;-)

POST 30Original post

Am I missing something. Looks like everything else is working but I can't get the Nav to calibrate without the Reverse Sensor hooked up. .. Is there anything else I need to do?

POST 31Original post

Having read some of the previous post, I think you at least have to ground the reverse wire if you aren't planning on hooking it up to the real source?

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The reverse sensor is not required; I'm not certain if it must be grounded. You MUST have a lead from the electronic speed signal. I am not sure if Porsche has already put a lead in the radio harness as some cars already have - if not, you probably have to grab it from the instrument cluster. This is where it gets too technical for me!! I'm gonna get some help from my audio shop. BTW, I'm installing in my old benz not my P-car so my experience may be different from yours.

POST 33Original post

I just purchased the Traffic Pro from Crutchfield and started looking at my stock harness tonite. I have a CDR220 with DSP and when I take out the stock radio, the harness is missing the wires for the GAL and the Reverse wire. Am I supposed to take out those two wires from the harness they provide and put them into the stock harness that is already attached? How do you get the individual wires out of the harness? Then it sounds like I need to hooked up the GAL and the Reverse wires and then I'm ready to try it out? Thanks in advance, Will

POST 34Original post

Figured it all out today.....GAL and Reverse wires hooked up!
