Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was just down at Portland Glass having a a small pebble hit filled and repaired on her windshield (which they did a terrific job at..!). Anyway - the manager said something like "I wish you had a later model Porsche, because.."... Well - I do - but not a 996... To make a long story short.... He ordered in a 996 Windshield (SEKURIT) with the rain sensor for a customer about 7 months ago - and between the time he got it in and the appointment to install it - the owner totaled his 996. Besides the windshield, they have the mouldings (Porsche marked new bags) and mounting strips (they look like black plastic/metal?). Anyway - he asked me if I had a friend who wanted one or anyone with a 996 - who may want it cheap, as it's been sitting in his inventory. I have NO idea how "cheap" - "cheap" is, but I'm guessing about $500-$600 for everything? I also have NO idea if this is a good price - but, I thought I'd ask a "few friends" to see if they might be interested? Wish it fit my 993, tho.... PM me or post back if anyone is interested, OK? And oh - no affiliation, yada, yada....

POST 2Original post

John I need one. However the $500-600 is not cheap by any means. You can get the Porsche windshield from my local stealer for $495 (and they are way over priced on parts i.e. wanted $48 dollars for the 2 993 oil filters). See if you can get the price they want for it. However I bet shipping will make it impossible for me to get at a decent price.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Brian..! No problem!! I'll give him a call in a bit and if he's still in - I'll get the price (it's almost 5PM here), have him read off the Porsche part numbers off the bags and such. As well - is has the "do-hicky" (I have no idea what it's called!) that looks like a mount for the rain sensor (where the rear-view mirror goes on my 993 - but, I don't have a rain sensor - except the top of my head when I've got the sunroof open ?). Also - if you want to PM your ZIP, I'll try to get the shipping estimate, OK? Best to you!

POST 4Original post

I have an interest and can get my car to his shop. Do they install windshields?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Umm - yep.... In fact - the price INCLUDED the installation if the 996 owner was local (installed using the proper Porsche techniques - I guess they bond and seal and let it cure for quite a while?). So, I asked if they could ship - and he said yes (thinking I'd just post it on Rennlist, and chances were, it would have to be shipped).... Now - do NOT hold me to this until I can confirm it - BUT - I called back after Brian's post, and unfortunately the manager had left for the day - but, the office clerk believes that the installed price would be less then $450 or $425, based on what he said just before he left. Again - I'll check first thing in the AM, and I'll post back into this thread when I confirm it tomorrow, OK??

POST 6Original post

Good stuff, I am interested. I picked up a rock that put a spider in the windshiels and I have been meaning to get it fixed. Can you let me have some contact information, (that is, if brian passes, since he spoke up first).

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK - here you go..... Call Portland Glass at [phone removed] and ask for Tony (He's the manager). The price includes windshield, mounting, mouldings, sub-frame, sealing, etc.. - and warranty. $450 installed with that stuff. Just tell him "John from Rennlist referred you"... Also - Brian just PMed me - so, if you don't want it - I'll check shipping costs and see if Brian is still interested... ALSO - if you do come down - want to meet up for a bit??? You'd be about 10 minutes from "Rennlist Central" !!! Best to you! John

POST 8Original post

I will call Tony. Thanks. I would also enjoy seeing "rennlist central". I will get back to you with a schedule. Thanks John, I just spoke to Tony. The windshield he has posession of contains the rain sensitive wiper option. My car does not have that option. The mis-match esults in a problem with mounting the rearview mirror. Tony is going to check it out and get back to me, but I suspect we can not do a deal here. Too bad 'cause I would have run it through insurance which was gonna get Tony a better price for the unit. If he reports something different, I will post an edit. Thanks for your efforts anyway John.

POST 9Original post

Hey Gretch, You could always retrofit the rain sensor. Its only a few hundred, no..

POST 10Original post

Man, having my car decide when to turn on the windshield wipers is over kill, even for a guy with a C4 Tip with PSM. I get to make few enough decisions as it is with this car............. Apparently there is a whole new rearview mirror mount and all the associated nonsense that goes into making the windshield wipers come on "majically"......way more trouble than it is worth......

POST 11Original post

Good point Gretch, next they'll just have an auto-pilot, all we'll have to do is buckle in....
