Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just picked up some ebay exhaust and I was wondering if you had any regrets. I really am doing it to get 25lbs off the rear of the car. That seems like a lot of weight savings. Is it way louder? Noticible? Do you get more attention with the exhaust? I don't want people staring all the time or cops noticing me. Honestly do you think it adds any horsepower?

POST 3Original post

i have fabspeeds and i love them. But soon, ill be pulling those and just going with bypass i guess...

POST 4Original post

Umm...what is the exhaust? There are many knids and some help with power some don't, some sound better, some too loud...we really need to know what you have before we can comment on it (ebay does not make aftermarket exhaust to my knowledge). Love my Europipes!

POST 5Original post

Love my GHL normal (not loud). For a cab, I think it's perfect.

POST 6Original post

Fabspeed on my cab. Love it ! I saved the old just in case of resale.

POST 7Original post

I have GHL (regular) on my cab and I love the sound.

POST 8Original post

I also have the GHL regular's on my cab and love them, nice sound!

POST 10Original post

<<< Fabspeed bypass pipe owner here. Although it is not my daily driver I do enjoy it when I have a chance to drive it. It has become a game with local 5-0, when I see them I let off the throttle and cruise by them. It is becoming more difficult with tinted windows, 19" chrome wheels and a loud exhaust, I am just waiting for that day. But till then..carry on

POST 11Original post

I just put on the Fabspeeds. Haven't had much seat time with them yet. The wife loves them because before that I was running muffler bypass. I was a bit dissapointed in the volume of the Fabs, but comming from the bypass thats just expected. They do sound good, just not as loud as I would have liked. Anyone know if the GHL louds are between the Fabs and a bypass?

POST 13Original post

Fabspeed here also.... To be honest, the stock exhaust is way too tame out of the box. You have to change it!

POST 14Original post

Ya but Porsche engineers the best exhaust for your car. You sacrifice sound for performance with aftermarket. I am told it is a sin to change to anything but PSE by the local Porsche fanatics.

POST 15Original post

I'm sure they would say ANYTHING non-OEM is sacreligious my car is going to hell

POST 16Original post

LMAO, good point, LOL, I guess I might have to meet you there.

POST 17Original post

The GHL louds are waaay louder than fabs, I may have a set available soon, can't take it anymore.

POST 18Original post

dude! no way in hell the GHL louds are louder than fabspeed. they are only moderately louder then GHL regular that's why i GOT RID of the GHL loud. unless GHL sent me the wrong set... but i called them and double checked and loud is what they sent me. send your louds to me so i can test them. maybe GHL was wrong... twice!

POST 19Original post

Way, I took off my fabs and put on some ghl louds, they are significantly louder than fabs. Either you had a regular set or they've changed the design. They also drone like mad, totally unexpected, I was expecting something in btwn fabs and ghl regulars. Be careful what you wish for, ghl louds are very loud.

POST 20Original post

I have GHL "loud" on a 40th Anniversary car. Just perfect for me. No drone or vibration at all. They definitely did not seem to hurt the performance of the X51 based on my "seat of the pants" dyno. Mike

POST 21Original post

I just installed the Ztek headers and Mufflers over the weekend and the car is finally awake. I am very pleased with their quality and fitment, they don't sound that bad either. I don't think I ever want to go back to her sounding like a sewing machine.

POST 22Original post

The real question of this thread should be: Do you prefer to hear the intake or the exhaust when you drive? If your answer is the latter, it's time to swap out the stock exhaust. Period.

POST 23Original post

A lot of you guys have the muffler bypass, can these by harmful to the engine or cause any side effects? CEL?

POST 24Original post

The msg should be loud and clear by now. Stock stinks. I hope Porsche read this site and learn.

POST 25Original post

I could not disagree more. PSE is for sound only, Fabspeed will give you sound and some extra HP.

POST 26Original post

maybe some hp high in the power band but can potentially result in loss of torque at the low end ( i have read)

POST 27Original post

I have never read or heard anything about Fabspeed resulting in a low end power loss. The dyno charts I've seen confirm this. I have however heard about power loss on a Tubi exhaust on a 996TT. Fabspeed has a reputation for having the best HP gain for any aftermarket exhaust.

POST 28Original post

To answer your original question, I love the sound of my PSE (not sure if that's considered aftermarket or not, but what the hell, it's a mod dammit!!!) . Maybe it's psychological, but I feel more in touch with what's happening under the hood, especially when I'm out on the track. I'm more comfortable downshifting while braking hard without looking at the tach. That allows me to focus more focus on the turn ahead. With the PSE, the car definitely attracts more attention. Hot chicks, fat bald middle aged-guys, nuns, joggers, rabbi's, bartenders, homeless people, etc. etc. People turn their heads before they see the car because they want to see what's coming down the street. No one turns their head to see what's coming when I drive the Expedition or Range Rover, even under WOT. With the PSE, the car is VERY noticable in traffic under heavy throttle. Not the neanderthal sound of a hacked-up Harley or rice burner, or the over-the-top sound of a bright orange Lambo, but the sound of a classy well-engineerd machine. Even at idle, the car sounds great. I once handed the keys to the valet and turned to walk away. When I heard the roar of the car as it pulled away, my first reaction was to rip the chief valet a new a-hole for letting his guy drive my car like a maniac. When I turned around to watch the car drive off, I realized the driver wasn't really going that fast. He was just pulling away from the curb and getting out in traffic, nothing obscene. Not to sound snobbish, but I often feel sorry for people who drive 996's with stock exhaust. This morning, I was stuck in traffic behind a guy with a 996 with the standard exhaust (while driving my wife's car). When he stepped on the gas to pull away from the light, I actually felt sorry for him..... even though he looked like a poser. If it's not obvious by now, I LOVE my PSE...... even though it doesn't make the car any faster, it adds to the visceral feel of driving the car.

POST 29Original post

In my opinion, what's the point of going though the trouble with changing your exhaust if it doesn't give you any extra HP. Again just my 2 cents

POST 30Original post

My wife has the same opinon. You mean you spent $1k on mufflers and the stock ones were perfectly good? The stock ones are just too quiet. The P car flat six is a wonderfull sounding motor if you let the sound out =) I'm a guitar player and currently have 12 amps in my basement. Its all about the sound.

POST 31Original post

My comment didn't have any bearing on money. However when it comes to music I have the same opinion. I certainly can appreciate the sound of a exhaust on my car however I just feel its not necessary unless it gives you a descent HP gain. I guess I'm still use to a turbo car.

POST 32Original post

who cares about HP gain...whoever (except for track'ers) take their P's to the max?? 10-15 HP??? But if you drive a sportscar that sounds like a purring kitten, well then you have kind of a problem! If I hear (before I see) a Ferrari...I automatically think Sportcar!! When I see a P...didn't hear it....I think nice car, but I don't think sportscar!! Unless I see a speed yellow turbo. These are just my 2 cents...and I am picking up my super sound dansk sport exhausts today (monday) so I too can roar like a real sportcar driver, with more or less HP's..I got a tip and cab anyways....

POST 33Original post

I bet your wife has no problem spending money on a new handbag when her others are perfectly good... By this logic, we would all be driving Accords...

POST 34Original post

Actually my wife is the saver in the family. Its taken years of conditioning, but she just smiles and gives me the "look", and shakes her head. Shes a real good sport =) She's a BMW gal at heart and it was not happy when we traded her 540 6spd for a Lexus ES300 as she has a 3 hour daily commute that was killing the 5er. Once our son is out of daycare I've promised her another M3. I've often wished I had gardening as a hobby insteady of cars, guitars, and motorcycles. I'd have saved myself a ton of money.

POST 35Original post

JES, Gardening? Are you nuts? Do you how much a Japanese Maple or a Purple Birch cost?

POST 36Original post

I've no idea, but probably less than a 1966 Fender Telecaster.
