In a year you can use a booster seat and that makes a huge difference.

you see that is exactly what I didn't want to happen...using my P for school drop offs and driving around like a kindergarden verhicle.......it was starting to happen, because my other car was a Honda Element ( what was I thinking!??)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have been wanting to take the kids for a ride in my 996 for sometime. Obviously they could not go in the Boxster and the 944 only had lap belts in the back so that did not happen either. My daughter is finally old enough to go forward facing so today I took the time to install the car seats, even had to go buy 1 new one for my soon-his just would not fit. After all of that we loaded up the car and you can see from the first picture that they were happy as a clam...until I got out of the garage. The 2nd picture was 5 blocks away. My daughter freaked out because of the sun and wind. Went back home dropped her and my wife off and my son and I keept ridding. We did not leave the neighborhood but kept driving around and he loved it. I guess it will just be some baby steps.

Hahaha - great post, thanks.
Every morning, I cram my two kids in the C4S, with book bags, lunch boxes, etc. and cart them off to school. Up until a month ago, I had a 1994 Cab as well, and the kids loved to go for a ride with the top down.
My 10 month old will be in there soon enough....
Nice to see kids in the car. Funny, I have a 7 yr old now. I always thought putting a car seat in the back was redundant, if not downright more dangerous. But the laws are the laws. Play one of her favorite tunes the next time to see if that helps. Cheers.

Anyway I bought a BMW X5 yesterday...so I won't mind driving the SUV (sorry SAV for BMW) with kid slobbering all over the backseat!
It looks funny 2 kids in the back...but the wind and bug eating gets old quick...especially for "women" (even the very young ones!!)
I stuff both my daughters in the back of mine. Problem is one is 15 and 5'6" and the other one is 12 and 5'4"! The deal we have is that if they want to go in the pcar, no complaining is allowed or else it's mom's volvo. 9 out of 10, they choose the p-car. I guess they're going to be future Porsche owners one day.
Nice post,
Question for you.......you said you didn't put the kids in a 944 because it only has lap belts. Since you need to install the car seat anyway, which has shoulder restraints, what is the real difference here?
I ask because I am considering an older 911 cab for a 3rd car, and I don't see a real issue with having just lap belts. Run the lap belt through the car seat channel and tether the upper part of the car seat.
Nice kids jsaindc and some great pictures ...
One question, those car seats look sort of big, height-wise. Can you still fit them in with the top up? Anyone tried fitting one into a Coupe? ... Thanks and have fun!
The problem that I had with the 944 was that the car seats would not stay put, they tipped over and the lap belt would not prevent it. My son is in a booster seat and needs, should have, the shoulder belts. I guess you could put a car seat in if you could find one that would fit and not keep tiping over. I never felt comfortable the way they fit in the 944. I was very surprised how they fit in the 996. You can take the seat cushion off, I did not. I did have to go and buy another seat to fit, I must have 10 by now. The car seat and booster seat are very tight. I am very annal about it for reasons that I do not want to bring up. So I can honestly say that they are pretty safe in here, of course it is a cab and that has concerns as well. I probably will never take them very far or on major highways though. Just me, nothing wrong with it.
I just showed this thread to my almost 9 year old who rides in my C4S all the time. She asked if I would promise to keep the car until she is 16 so she can HAVE it. What should I tell her?
Although not a 996, my youngest daughter and I had a Daddy-Daughter day yesterday and she wanted to go driving in the Porsche (she's singing in the picture; 5 years old):
Little trick: After the top is down and the hand brake is still up, just put your finger in the little hole where the top latches when it's closed while pushing the rear window buttons... works like a charm
Are these your dogs or your kids we're talking about here?
If the German geniuses at Porsche didn't want us toting our kids around, they wouldn't have given us back seats - neither would they have made the car sear/airbag deactivation kit.
Bring on the kids!!!
My son turns eight in a month and has been riding in my P-cars (97, 99 cab, 03 cab) since he was 3 days old. Whenever he has the choice it's always "Dad can we take the race car"
What I'm afraid of now is his expectation at turning 16!

I use the britax booster seats for my 8 and 6 year olds. I started with the backs on, but now i just use the bottom seat cushion. There is a strap to hold the shoulder belt if you want. Works great for family trips and day to day driving. Put the Thule box on top for expanded storage.
Our eddie bauer car seat eats up so much room in the back that I have to move the passenger seat all the way forward, much to my wife's dismay. My son is 2 now, any recommendations on good seats that fit yet don't take up so much space?
In a year you can use a booster seat and that makes a huge difference. I have searched for the right size seat and I do not think that it exists. All of the new seats have large bases. The old seats were much smaller, I wonder if it has anything to do with the LATCH system which we do not have on the 996, coupes have the top but not the bottom. The only thing I have not tried or seen in person are the Porsche zoom seats. Maybe they are smaller.
