The plan also reimbursed me for a car rental and then about 1 week later some hoses needed to be replaced for another $600.

So far car runs great and no problems whats so ever but I hear to each his own and from what I've read and hear from others on the forum if you have an extended warranty from Porsche and can extend it...that is likely the best set of options.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The factory warrantee on my '02 Boxster S expires in JAN06 and I'm considering an aftermarket extended warrantee. Any advice? Am more interested in coverage for "catastrophic failures" than other more routine repairs. The local Porsche repair and race prep shop told me not to waste my money. Two of his customers needed engines replaced after overheats (one Boxster, one 996) and never got satisfaction from their extended warrantee companies. The companies wanted the engines torn down to determine the exact cause. I don't know the details or if "operator error" was a factor, but apparently the companies were uncooperative. Any companies to recommend? FilthyF14 2002 Boxster S Silver/grey

POST 2Original post

I have had great luck w/EasyCare. I purchased through my local P dealer and about 90 days after I bought the policy, which cost ~$2,800 for 4 years, my alternator broke and I filed a claim for ~$2k. It was paid no questions asked. Adam

POST 3Original post

Alternator change is $2k?? Did the repair shop take the engine out? WTF!

POST 4Original post

The car is a 996TT so the parts and labor were about $1300. The plan also reimbursed me for a car rental and then about 1 week later some hoses needed to be replaced for another $600. Labor at the dealership here is $150/hr. Adam

POST 5Original post

Had one paid about $3k for it for 3 yrs or 30k miles on my pre-owned 1999 C2 996. Had a coolant tank failure and busted oil and fuel line; neither were covered under my extended warranty. Clutch replacement I paid for myself. At the same time asked my local independant P-shop what they thought of my warranty w/1st Source Warranty (actually gave them the warranty to read and critique) and they told me to go get my $$ back or as much as I could and put it away in a sock or good mutual fund/cd as the warranty was about worth the paper it was written on for what it would actually cover and pay is something was wrong on my car and that of all the things they covered..none of them really had a chance and shouldn't go wrong on my vehicle (as they had just finished going over the transmission (i.e. puttin the clutch in) and thus found the damaged fuel and oil lines. So I canceled my extended warranty and got $2300 back which I put in a CD at 4.5%! So far car runs great and no problems whats so ever but I hear to each his own and from what I've read and hear from others on the forum if you have an extended warranty from Porsche and can extend it...that is likely the best set of options. Good luck...Rob
