Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

Suggestion
If your pads are completely worn out make sure you check the fluid level as you spread the pads/pistons apart so that you don't overflow the reservoir.
Leading evidence: 'Check fluid level as you spread the pads/pistons apart so' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fluid level as you spread the pads/pistons apart so' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If you never change pads or inspect pads, then go for the dampeners and sensors.

Suggestion
If you have your wheels off more often than you fill up with gas and are regularly inspecting things, then you don't need either--although depending on the pads, the dampeners may make a difference.

But the purists will recommend replacing the mounting bolts each time if you do so.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I am swapping out my OEM pads for some Hawks and I am wondering if I need to do anything else besides...
1. Take out the pin.
2. Remove the sensor wire.
3. Take out the pad and put in the new ones.
What else needs to be done?
chk renntech.org for brake job DYI. You'll need to retract the pistons to get the new pads in which will be thicker since they are new. Which hawk are you using? If HPS, don't bother bc it won't improve much. I would not change unless you are going to the track w a race/track pad.
1. Remove pin and sensor wire.
2. Compress pistons with pad spreader (or chanel locks, etc)
3. Replace pads
4. Replace pin and sensor wire
5. Pump the breaks a couple of times
6. repeat for the next wheel
Depending on your year/model/phase of the moon and any prior brake work, you may have some vibration dampening cylinders which fit into the piston calipers. Depending on how well the glue holds and if you care about retaining them, you may have to remove the calipers to remove them which is also a fairly simple procedure. But the purists will recommend replacing the mounting bolts each time if you do so. The usefulness of the dampeners may depend on which pads you use. If your pads are completely worn out make sure you check the fluid level as you spread the pads/pistons apart so that you don't overflow the reservoir.
It makes pad changes that much easier. I say this because I change pads for each track event.
Also, do yourself a favor and flush the brake fluid before retracting the old pads. This prevents contaminated fluid from getting pushed back into the abs controller.
Bowman...whatever you do, be very careful when you take out the "pin." It may seem trevial, but it's not. That pin is nearly priceless. If you do this in your garage, you probably won't lose it. If you do this track side, you may drop it in the grass and then you're screwed (I know, I did). I lost mine and was only fortunate enough to get a replacement from someone I knew at the track. Couldn't find out where to buy a replacement pin...not Porsche...not Home Depot...not anywhere. I believe Porsche wants you to buy an entire kit for $90 + for the price of a .25 pin...go figure!
BTW, if anyone knows how I can get my hands of a few extra pins...please let me know.
i don't use the sensors anymore since i am constantly changing out to track pads. i zip tie them away never to be used again.
i don't use the vibration dampers for the very same reason.
Thanks Carlos, new coilovers, brake lines, and brake pads going in tonight.
I gotta get outta working this afternoon. I think I am starting to feel sick.
Same as karlooz,
Depends on how often you envision changing pads. If you never change pads or inspect pads, then go for the dampeners and sensors. If you have your wheels off more often than you fill up with gas and are regularly inspecting things, then you don't need either--although depending on the pads, the dampeners may make a difference. Also, depends on how much squeal you think is acceptable. For me, another reason to remove them is 4 oz of unsprung weight
