This is not a probability of success.

I am 62 and when I use my helmet on track days I rub on the roof and I have to tilt the seat too far back - and yes, thay are as low as they go.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone know if the GT3 Seats or the equivalent Recaros can be fitted lower in a 996 than the stock seats? I have the deluxe power seats in my 996. I am 62 and when I use my helmet on track days I rub on the roof and I have to tilt the seat too far back - and yes, thay are as low as they go. I have been looking at the Recaro GT3 seats as well as the Recaro Pole Position that have a similar profile but I have no idea if they allow a lower overall seat height. Help! I need more headroom! I heard that the Sparco seats actually are higher than stock seats with their installation hardware so it has me concerned that I may spend the $$ and go the opposite direction for what I need. Anybody advise is appreciated. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

I put in the GT3 "bucket" seats vs. stock non-deluxe power seats. I only picked up about a 1/2" more headroom. Brey-Krause (spelling?) makes some adapters that will lower the GT3 seats another 1". They also make some adapters to mount the GT3 seats (and maybe some others) directly to the floor to pick up a few more inches. If you really get desperate, I've heard of people removing the GT3 seat bottom cushions for maybe another inch.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The Recaro Pole Position has a removable pad and like you have stated, you can remove in on track days and get some more room. I check them out today at a speed shop. They are not as nice at the GT3 seats but they are not as much $. My helmet just hits so a inch would actually help a lot - getting another one inch from removing the pad makes it totaly worth it. I like the idea of getting better seats to prevent sliding around and helping with headroom so I think this will make my mind up for me. They are now on my Christmas List!

POST 4Original post

BK mounts without sliders should give you at least another 3-4 inches...

POST 5Original post

one thing about race seats (gt3, sparco, recaro) is that they sit more upright. since your seats are reclined too far back the 1/2 you are looking for might not be enough. you will probably need even more.
