Suggestion

I wrestled getting the old tank out and the new tank in, using lots of 4 letter words I hadn't used in awhile, but was very happy after the job was done with a few wrenches and tools.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It seems my coolant reservoir is leaking on my MY99 996. I was looking at replacements and have found very few places with the part in stock. Is there a difference in mk1 and mk2 reservoirs? Does anyone have a link to shops that keep this in stock?

POST 2Original post

Any Porsche dealership will have access to the National database. You may have to order via Germany. Always get the latest upgrade, just ask them if it fits in your car which I'd assume it does. Also make sure it comes with a new cap....

POST 3Original post

Google these guys: SunCoast, Sunset, Pelican, AutoAtlanta

POST 4Original post

Mark 1 and 2 are different and you can't use the mk2 in a mk1, sorry. Try these great merchants: www.porscheoemparts.com www.sunsetporsche.com www.suncoastporsche.com www.autoatlanta.com www.autohausaz.com www.rmeuropean.com www.pelicanparts.com

POST 5Original post

I replaced my coolant tank with one from Suncoast 2 years ago for $205 plus shipping. Get lots of bandaids to.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok I found and ordered one. I have a feeling you are right Barn996, this looks like a job riddled with injury.....

POST 7Original post

There isn't a lot of space for things like hands and fingers. I wrestled getting the old tank out and the new tank in, using lots of 4 letter words I hadn't used in awhile, but was very happy after the job was done with a few wrenches and tools. Some said it was a breeze, but whatever time you spend you'll be happy when it's done. I've had no coolant smells or leaks since.

POST 8Original post

Not really a hard job on a '99. I replaced mine in about 45 minutes (beer break included).

POST 9Original post

Are you sure its the tank or maybe a coolant hose attached to it?

POST 10Original post

hehe. I shouldnt laugh but...I don't envy you the job of replacing the coolant tank. It's entirely DIYable - so you kind of have to do it...but it sure is a pain in the a$$. Good news for you though is that I hear the MkI is easier than the MkII. We have to usually do a partial engine drop.

POST 11Original post

Sorry that I am just seeing this thread today. We always have at least 1 or 2 in stock along with many other parts. Currently, we also have 3 complete 3rd Rad kits in stock. While you are doing the Coolant Tank... why not add the extra Rad as well.
