Johnson's Alignment in Torrance fitted my M030 for $600 including alignment in June.

British English changes very rapidly and slang becomes mainstream very quickly, whereas typically American English has changed less quickly and is more strict in the use of grammar.

Only because they know you guys can't drive very well on the "right" side of the road, so they know you will be back to their shop many times for repair/re-alignment work!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

If I were to purchase the parts online, and then have them fitted locally (SoCal), what do think I'm looking at for a shop install of ROW M030??
Also - with 19" 997 S rims on my 996, am I in for clearance issues with the drop in height from the ROW M030??
Any help much appreciated
Suspension = DIY, just rent a spring compressor from your local auto store. Also check for other threads for complete installation. I just did my x74 although my shocks and struts were already assembled with the springs.
I have 19's and the x74 is lower than the M030, so I believe you will be OK but it is all about the off-set of the wheels.
Well....having recently looked into this, I can say it ranges from $850-$1600 in Orange County....depending on the shop. Seems most are in the low teens for installation and alignment.
Hi Chris
Johnson's Alignment in Torrance fitted my M030 for $600 including alignment in June. They're good people, know Porsches, and did a great job. I heartily recommend them.
Only because they know you guys can't drive very well on the "right" side of the road, so they know you will be back to their shop many times for repair/re-alignment work!
Simple - repeat after me:
Gor blimey mister - can you slap some new Barry Crockers on me old Porker?
Ta very much matey blokey.
What's the damage? A monkey and a couple of ponies do ya?
Sorted!
Gor blimey mister
Hello Sir
can you slap some new Barry Crockers on me old Porker?
can you put some new shock absorbers on my Porsche?
Ta very much matey blokey.
Thank you very much my good friend
What's the damage?
How much will it cost?
A monkey and a couple of ponies do ya?
$500 and a couple of $25s enough?
Sorted!
Awesome!
Sorted. Got my race Twos (two left feet = seats) and my Hotel (hotel and spa = rollbar) plus my lowered 401k (401k pension = suspension) installed, so all I need now is a Sack (sack of fruit = SFI5 race suit) and my Hail (Hail fellow well met = SA2005 helmet), and I'll be ready to race the Phoebe (Phoebe Cates = Silver State).
Apparently, some people think that rhyming slang is just made up to annoy Septics, but I don't know why...
Just had this done, 12 hr. @my local shop rate of $65/hr.=around $850 (including taxes). Started as a DIY but it's a dirty job and a bitch to do if you do not have all the right tools and a lift. I threw up the white flag and ended up having to have my car towed to the shop w/ the front hub hanging. It was worth the $ to have a pro do it and have my car ready in a few days.
Dear God! Your mechanic needs to be shot for incompetence. He shouldn't have even spent have that amount of time. Any EXPERIENCED shop that knows what they are doing can have this done (including align) in 4-6 hours.
I bought my set from Suncoast Porsche for $1,057 plus shipping; it still listed at the same price on their web site. Porsche dealer quoted 12 hours at $102 per hour. I did it myself in about that time with the car on jack stands. I used a spring compressor on one of the front wheels but with the spring being cone shaped it didnt fit very well so I figured out that I could change them without it. I had to put on my He Man suite but I did it.
It always amuses me to see Americans trying to use British slang.
Nothing sounds (even if written) worse than the pretentions of someone using slang that wasn't designed for them. The absolute worst is when an American tries to use ****. I'm sorry, the word just does not work unless you have the right accent and culture.
The absolute best is when American tv shows something that uses the word ****** and lets it go uncensored, then beeps ***. How moronic is that?!?!
1) Incorrect, we speak English, you speak the "Queen's English". There IS a difference.
2) Actually I do. That was a rhetorical question and my dry humor that I figured another brit would get. FYI...you don't need an accent, you need ethnicity. I would have to say that 1/2 Brit by birth and belonging to the Church of England (Episcopal here) gets me that pass
Now if you will excuse me, I have to go have my morning cup o' tea
No, very few English people speak the "Queen's English" - from what I can see I'd say the vast majority fall into that classification.
Americans speak American English.
Ethnicity doesn't always get you a pass, but you are correct, it is more than the accent, it's culture, humor, style, etc.
You could be non-native English, but raised there and get away with it. You could also be raised abroad by two (
) native english parents and have the same culture as you would if raised in the UK.
...not that I'm a member of the English Language Police or anything.
I have increasing difficulty understanding some of the words that my family say.
Agreed on the tea - gotta get to the gym and back before I can have mine.
Americans speak English. Brits speak either:
1) the language of haughtiness or
2) some lost variation of backwater dialect reminiscent of an in-bred village in Alabama/Louisiana/Oklahoma . . .
Learn to speak correctly, including the proper pronunciation of Aluminum, will you. While you are at it, stop being so damned homophobic every time the subject of cigarettes or smoking comes up, will you? I realize the imagery could be a little homo-erotic if you live in a land that is underendowed vis-a-vis the US of A (cigarettes are just so small that homo-eroticism just never comes to our minds). Grow up, will you?
For the humor challenged among us, this post was said 100% tongue-in-cheek as a joke to make fun of ourselves in the style of Borat. Don't get your panties in a wad . . .
Not bad!
Actually, American English is the less evolved and more grammatically pure of the two languages.
British English changes very rapidly and slang becomes mainstream very quickly, whereas typically American English has changed less quickly and is more strict in the use of grammar.
Corruption of the language typically occurs due to misuse by the lower classes and less educated. Britain has a larger percentage of those, so language changes can be dramatic.
I've been away from Europe almost 13 years and now have problems with some of the words that are in common use over there.
'Tis true. American English has retained some words and characteristics that have become extinct in British English. "Gotten" is a good example of a older grammatical construction that has vanished in Britain.
It's time you caught up!
Same is true with all of the new world. European Spanish vs. Central and South American Spanish, European French vs. Canadian French, etc . . . It is particularly true with respect to French.
If you're interested in this kind of thing, Bill Bryson wrote "Mother Tongue" which is a study of the divergence of British and American English - a good book.
I've always had a love of words. All words have a meaning, and we should take care to use them wisely.
******
just kidding, just kidding, thought it was funny in context that I don't "really" know what it means and no idea of its severity, which is exactly how this OT discussion started
The x74 was a simple installation and yes it works on 99 and up.
Here is the link my thread on the install so that you can see pics etc. of it:
x74 Install
I can tell you it is easier to install than the M030 as it comes pre-assembled, so no need for spring compressor.
