Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'll continue to search the classified ads and eBay, but I've seen more than one person score a set for a good deal just by asking here.

Use smaller diameter j pipe and it's configured differently

Suggestion
The MKI mod uses a smaller diameter J pipe and it's configured differently, but I've never heard or seen one in person.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thought I'd throw my hat in the ring for a set of these, in case anyone has a set in the garage. I'll continue to search the classified ads and eBay, but I've seen more than one person score a set for a good deal just by asking here.
ultramens, below is a link to a 3.4L set on ebay. they're pretty expensive, but i thought i would point you to them anyway.

Ultramens: Loren from RennTech will give his away. (3.4L)..but he doesn't want to be hassled with shipping. Where are you located? He's in the Sacramento area.
Guys I have a set of 3.4 cans with original EOM tips for $250 plus shipping. The cans on e-bay are for $400.00 w/o tips. If anyone wants them please pm. I will ship anywhere in US. Just the tips alone are worth the money.
Chuck, thanks man, i sent loren a PM already, but I am located in Orlando FL and he wont ship.....Manny, how much would you sell them for without tips? Thanks
I know there is a mod for the 3.4 (MKI), but you will get a better sound from 3.6L mufflers and doing the MKII mode IMHO. Then you will have the sound I and others have
Post the link to the thread of the 3.4L mod in your response.
But I am not going to stop you from buying a set of 3.4 and doing the MKI mod to them as I know there are a lot of people on the forum with them available as you can tell. I even have a set but will be keeping them for a bit until I decide what to do with them.
I recall seeing a discussion thread either here or on RennTech where that guy did the J pipe MKI modification to a set of 3.4L cans and claimed that the sound was every bit as good as the MKII 3.6L cans. The MKI mod uses a smaller diameter J pipe and it's configured differently, but I've never heard or seen one in person. I know that there are a number of guys who have tried modding the 3.4L cans and most come back saying they're sadly disappointed with the results. It's almost unanimous for the guys with the 3.6L mod to say that they really like the sound and are very satisfied with the results.
I tried a side-by-side test of my MKII 3.6 mod against Loren's PSE mufflers and have to admit that the PSE's are much more refined and better sounding than the MKII modded ones. But since sound is subjective and it's too difficult to remember what they sounded like, once you're away from a PSE car, you'll never remember the difference and will still be very pleased with the sound of the MKII's.
Chuck - here is a link to a post by Waynesworld where he describes and shows a slightly different version of the MKI (J-pipe) mod. At the bottom of post # 1 he has listed "before" and "after" clips. In post #15 he added a few other sound clips. FYI.

Tim: That was the thread I was trying to recall....thanx for posting it. When you look at what it takes to modify the MKI 3.4 versus the MKII 3.6....the 3.4 seems a lot simpler because the holes are more or less straight on whereas in the MKII you have to custom fit the pipe at an angle to the outlet.
If they sound more or less the same, there's no reason for all these folks to be so diligently searching for the 3.6 cans....but the deciding factor for most of the guys has been the number of positive reports coming back on the 3.6 MKII mod with all the supporting write-ups and pictures. This could very well turn out like the old battle between VHS and Beta tapes. One wins out because more people decided to buy them for whatever reason...not necessarily because VHS was better, as a matter of fact, it was inferior.
I would like to see someone put up a sound clip between the 3.4 MKI and the 3.6 MKII. I would venture to say that if the MKI is done right, there may be very little difference.
