Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

LiveNupe, I tried to PM you but I guess newbies like me that haven't posted much on the site can't use PM.

As I don't anticipate the need to use the quiet mode anytime soon, I was just going to have the mufflers installed with no switch and none of the wiring or vacuum lines hooked up.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recently acquired a low-mileage '04 40th anniv 996 and plan to install the PSE. As I don't anticipate the need to use the quiet mode anytime soon, I was just going to have the mufflers installed with no switch and none of the wiring or vacuum lines hooked up.
I have read most if not all of the post regarding this topic but just wanted to make certain of a couple of things: can anyone tell me if the cans are automatically in bypass/loud mode when they are just installed as is and not wired up? Does anything need to be done to secure the flaps? Do any vacuum ports have to be plugged?
Any response appreciated. This forum is awesome!
Highhat,
Everyone is telling you the right thing. They're loud by default. I do have a recommendation, however.
When you do the installation, go ahead and connected the braided vacume lines to each can and thread them into the engine compartment. Just leave them there. That way if you DO decide to connect up the rest of it, you won't have to take the cans back out again.

HighHat,
Were are you located??? Where'd you buy your car??? If you wouldn't mine sharing, how much did you pay for it??? PM if you prefer. I'm proabably going to sell my car later this year and I'm trying to get a feel for the current market value for my 40th.
I'm torn. I'm driven by the need to have a car that's more appropriate for the track. Part of me wants to move onto something quicker (996 GT3) and part of me wants to move on to something more disposable (spec Boxster).
The only think I know for sure is that my skills have increased to the point where I need a "real" track car and my 40th can't take me where I want to go.
