Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It is a tire bar hanger to be used when changing the tire so you don't have to struggle to get the tire aligned with the holes in the "top hat." It also helps to keep the wheel from banging on the caliper or the brake disk.
Leading evidence: 'Use when' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check oil every time you refuel the car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

There is a "pin switch" located on the dome light housing which allows you to set the "courtesy lights" intensity to either high or low.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

there is a stud to put in place of one lug bolt to aid in installing the wheels? I read this in Excellence yesterday and I was thinking what a PITA to lift my wheels and tires on and start the first lug bolt when I did a full brake job last weekend.
Tippy - I posted the following 5 facts in the "2002 Xenon" thread after someone mentioned that they didn't even know they had headlight washers and then "I wonder what else is in there."

I have re-posted the 5 items below:
1. There is an aluminum bar in the tool kit that is threaded at one end. It is a tire bar hanger to be used when changing the tire so you don't have to struggle to get the tire aligned with the holes in the "top hat." It also helps to keep the wheel from banging on the caliper or the brake disk.
2. The "courtesy lights" (small amber lights on the front of the interior door handles and on the light dome) stay on for approximately 2 1/4 hours after you close the door.
3. There is a "pin switch" located on the dome light housing which allows you to set the "courtesy lights" intensity to either high or low.
4. The right rear fog light is inoperable from the factory. Only the left rear fog light illuminates. The wiring harness is identical on both sides, but the brown wire (for Fog light) on the right harness is not "hot."
5. Should the button to open the engine compartment become inoperable, there is an emergency release cable located under the left rear tail light assembly. However, you have to open the engine compartment in order to remove the tail light assembly. This engineering design MUST have been contrived during Oktoberfest!
Can anyone else add some obscure facts to this list?
I'm sure we have all seen this, but
Oil level gauge will appear for one minute after you fuel and restart the car.

thats odd...
Worked on my 00 before I broke the remote.

996 Porsche VHS tape given to new 996 owners who preferred not to RTFM! Good 996 overview of features.
And it should not be mistaken with the stop lights.
I've never seen too many Schwaben at the Oktoberfest in Munich. There's a certain rivalry between Bavaria and Baden-Wuertemberg (BWM vs. Porsche, Audi vs. Mercedes, FC Bayern vs. VFB Stuttgart - soccer, ...)
However, they have nice beer gardens in and around Stuttgart too!
Tippy - Turn your headlights on then pull the light switch out (toward the rear)ONE notch and the front fog/driving lights will illuminate. Pull the light switch out to the SECOND notch and the rear fog light will illuminate.
hwk73 that is true about the Oktoberfest Schwaben vs Bayern but less we forget they have their own fest at the exact same time in Stuttgart. Smaller, fewer drunk tourist and of course not as good beer but none the less it still a great time!
Yes. If you turn the key in the ignition, put it in gear and give it some gas, it makes you smile.
Also, you can get one for way less than 30 large, and only your fellow Rennlisters will know the difference between it and a 2007 997.
I wired up them together so both come on now:
I also bought an extra "threaded bolt for assembly wheels" P/N 999.571.074.30 to keep in my toolbox. It is invaluable in removing the wheels or lining them up on installation.
BTW, some extra trivia is that the threads on the Porsche are the same as on my Audis and VWs so this bolt works on them as well.
About those "threaded bolt for assembly wheels" - when you have the PCCB setup, you automatically get two of them. You really don't want to bonk the ceramic rotor with a wheel. $$$
Only if you go first.....
But on to your question about the lights. It is probably best if you take a look at your own Porsche's taillights at night. The inboard lamps are the taillights, and the outboard lamps are the rear fog lamps. Refer to your owners manual on how to turn them on.
Since the rear fog lamps are the same brightness as your brake lights, here in the US, only the left light is wired so as not to confuse someone behind you that you are braking. I have wired the left rear fog lamp to the right one so that both are powered as they are in Europe.
But remember they are only for driving in fog so the car behind you can see you, hence the name "fog" light.
There is almost nothing more retarded than someone driving down the road in clear weather with their front fog lights on. The only thing more retarded is for them to have the rear fogs on or refusing to yield the left lane!
Mine both come on (outboard lights, little -194 bulbs) with just the headlight switch turned to the right, not even pulling the switch aft. Did someone wire mine direct with the switch I wonder?!
No, those are your side marker lights. The rear fog lights are the next ones down. Rear fog lights shine like bright brake lights.
