This is not a probability of success.

That's what I thought but am thinking that the fact that it was the last of the air-cooled engines that is giving it a boost as well.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Why are 993's more expensive than 996's ? Is this simply a result of supply and demand or more to it ? For eg., a dealer I watch often for various marks just got the following: 1996 Porsche 911(993) Carrera 2 Cabriolet VIN# WP0CA2993TS340436 Polar Silver Metallic/Navy. 285hp 3.6ltr Engine w/ 6 speed manual trans. Excellent Condition thru-out. Loaded with 17" wheels, Leather, ASC, and more. We're asking $34,500.

POST 3Original post

Many reasons, but mostly supply and demand. 996's were a product of the leasing boom which allowed more folks to take delivery. This in addition to PORSCHE going with more automation and smarter assembly techniques allowed them to produce like never before. The 996 performs great! Many folks go after styling.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's what I thought but am thinking that the fact that it was the last of the air-cooled engines that is giving it a boost as well. Would love to drive a 993 for a comparison.

POST 6Original post

993s comprised about 20% of all the 911 variants made in history up to that time, meaning there are somewhere around 80,000 of them on the road. Supply and demand doesn't quite explain it, not yet anyway. I think the emotional piece is most of the story, as with most economic phenomenon.

POST 7Original post

The answer is obvious. 1) Porsche built waaay more 996's than 993's (more supply) 2) The 993 is the last of the "air-cooled" 911's and as such will always be desirable for that reason 3) The 997 is out now (another newer water-cooled) and it's release has cooled desire for the older 996.

Anyone have a side by side of a 993 and 996 ?

POST 11Original post

24,041, from a recent post; not a little but certainly not a lot.

POST 12Original post

a '95 that i have been watching and one of the many '02s I have been checking out

POST 13Original post

I've seen the number before, but I can't find it. I know that the 996 was the best selling 911 ever by a big margin. Does anyone have the total unit sales?
