Suspected cause

If I had to take a guess at what the cable is under the tail light, its probably a release for the trunk/engine cover, similar to the way the hood/bonnet release is under the front light.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got and installed the Silverfusion bulbs I had ordered in order to decrease the "amberness" of the car. The bulbs: Front Before: Front After: Side Marker Before: Side Marker After: Rear Before: Rear After: BTW, while swapping the bulbs I had to remove the taillight assembly, and I found this stainless steel cable behind the left taillight, attached to the body with a piece of what looks like duct tape. Anyone know what it does or why it's there?

POST 2Original post

OMG - he's found the secret control wire for the flux capacitor!!!! J OK - I think that's an "emergency" engine compartment cover release....

POST 4Original post

Leon, Those bulbs look great, what did they end up setting you back? If I had to take a guess at what the cable is under the tail light, its probably a release for the trunk/engine cover, similar to the way the hood/bonnet release is under the front light.

POST 5Original post

Yes, that's wha tthat wire duct taped is. It hangs down behind the bumper support in case you can't access the engine cover by normal means. Lights look great.

POST 6Original post

FYI - in CA you are allowed to have white turn signal bulbs so you didn't need to buy the Silvervisions for the front unless you wanted to keep the amber turnsignal lights.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

01C4, they cost me about $76, but they sure look good! Thanks for all your comments!

POST 8Original post

FWIW, you can purchase a can of silver hi-temp Rustoleum paint at Home Depot for under 4 bucks, spray a very light coat of paint on your existing amber bulbs, and accomplish the same thing. They look silver yet glow amber. Matt
