Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Q1: What are the speaker sizes on the vehicle?
Q2: I have the Porsche "Hi-Fi" Option, would I have to re-wire??
Q3: If I don't have to re-wire, what kind of speakers would you folks recommend?
Q4: For anyone living around the bay area, where would you recommend having work done??? I also need my windows tinted, I feel like everyone can see through my interior.
Thanks in advance
Hey Oakland996
I can't answer your stereo questions (I have the same as you so i'm curious also).
I can answer your tint one. I got my windows tinted at Auto Mall Tint Factory in Fremont. Sidney tinted my windows and was reallyhelpful with questions I had.
You can see pictures in my link below
I just looked through your pictures, very very nice. I like the Yellow one's stereo. WOW!
I think I've seen you folks before around Foster City....
BTW, I noticed that you had the sideskirts added on, how much was it and where did you get the skirts from??
Thanks in advance.
Here's a pic of my Carrera.
There have been a number of threads on this-one recent one is at
Stereo upgrade link
The specs on both the famous Carlos' car plus mine are listed there. I think Focals are the only way to go for speakers, but then you will definitely need a new amp. IMHO, in the 02's the only parts of the stock system worth keeping are the wiring and the speaker grills. Since you have an 03, it is probably built with MOST-compliant components, so you even get to throw away the wiring
I had my work done at Car Audio Innovations in Roseville. Next closest place I would go is to Jamie at Paris Audio in LA. I couldn't find anyone in the Bay Area with consistent recommendations by the other Porsche owners I spoke with.
Yeah.... I havent had any good recommendations for a good car audio place. I'be been going to Audio Dimensions for the past 4 cars that I had done up. I was affraid I would have to upgrade everything.
So...If I cant to keep the stock everything, would speaker upgrades be enough?
Oh BTW. Where can I get a Changer that would fit my car.
Here is another pic of my other dogs.
Jay,
I'd have to agree with you. Paris Audio or Car Audio Innovations. My current stereo was done by Paris and my previous 993 was done here in Roseville. Both excellent
It's a difficult question-I would guess that there are speakers which the current amp could drive which would sound better, but not the ones I would want in the long run. I would have a plan for what you want long-term, and then start assembling/installing the pieces as you go.
I guess for the mean time, I just want higher highs and lower lows without having to add McIntosh amps and Focal speakers. (YET). I've only owned the car for two weeks now, and I'm already itching to modify the hell out of it. My last car had a full Mc Intosh system, it too bad it went with the car when I sold it.
Thanks for your help! So, one last confirmation, the doors and dash speakers are 6.5/4/tweeter????
LMK.
You are asking about a Hi FI upgrade and what fits-
We did the following to a 996 turbo and the sizes are the same-
I have pictures on my website, but I am not sure if it's allowed to post a like to the install.
Quart QSD-164 - 6.5" woofers in door
QSD-210 - 4" and Tweeter in the factory dash locations. and the factory rear seat locations.
2 - Kicker Solo 8" L7 (the square subs) in the rear factory Bose subwoofer location.
1- Zapco C2K 4.0x - 4ch. amp to run the 3way Quart speaker system and rear 2way QSD-210 (in the front trunk)
1- Zapco C2K 6.0 to the Kicker subs. (Hidden behind the subwoofer amp)
2 - Zapco balanced line drivers.
Pioneer XM tuner module.
He wanted the Pioneer radio and a graphic Eq in the pocket up front - I would have gone with a remote eq and seperate bass **** if it were my system.
We did extensive Cascade Audio damping materials in the door and the rear area to improve the accoustic perfomance of the speaker enclosures.
The only item we had to modify to fit the equipement was the dash pocket for the EQ. No other cutting required.
