Had the very same problem on my 99, the dealer replaced the inside liner and that fixed all the rattles, they did it under warranty as my 99 is still covered till 9-03

Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a MY99 Cabriolet. My top rattles a bit. There are two tabs on the top itself that fit into the slots of the windshield frame. On those tabs there is what seems to be a bit of felt material covering. I guess this is to prevent the metal hitting metal and rattling. When I play with this material and remove and replace it the rattling stops. My question is does anyone have any advice on how to fix this (drives me nuts)! Or maybe placement of some other kind of material in another additional spot might help? There are also plastic covers on the tabs that fit the slots dealer does not know what I'm talking about but the one on the passenger side is missing, maybe it has something to do with it. Anyone have the part #'s. Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Steve

POST 2Original post

There is a sticky-backed felt often used for rattles by dealerships. I have some of it in my '99 996 Cab. You may need just another layer or so on there to make it silence. This stuff is also used in the door panels where the factory (for some odd reason) fails to baffle the noise. Not sure where to get it, but I would assume fabric shops, handyman stores, places like that.

POST 3Original post

you can usually get sticky back felt at a hardware store, but not sure about what colors it comes in...
