POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First, let me tell you that I have had an 04 911 turbo cab before and loved the sucker fastest car I have ever owned. But due to unforeseen circumstances I had to sell it. So fast forward I have been thinking about getting another 04 turbo but then I went COA and saw the brand new c7 vette at the chevy display and loved the looks of the yellow with black wheels. So I odered one because it was 10 years newer, no miles and a good warranty and maybe better resale. The reason the resale is better is because most banks don't finance 11 year old cars(i can barely get financing now for the 04) But after some runarounds it looks like its going to be maybe 6 months to a year to get the c7. So now I am considering an 04 turbo cab x50 for about 52k. I know this is a porsche forum that is why I am asking this here. If I buy the 04 911 turb is it going to be hard to sell in a couple of years. Also is there any big maint items that I should be concerned about?(car has got under 45k miles) And just for fun would really like ya'll opinion on what ya'll think I should do. I can't afford a new 911 btw.

POST 2Original post

The new 'vette is really nice. Your point about it being new are valid. It will have updated/modern electronics. For the money, you can't beat it. That being said, the turbo is also excellent. You just have to decide what you want.

POST 3Original post

I have never been a fan of the vette except the classics, but these new ones are pretty sweet looking. It would be a hard decision but most likely I would go with the Porsche especially if its the turbo. I think overall its just a better car for me. As for the maint items you will probably get better responses on the turbo section of this forum.

POST 4Original post

Having spent allot of time behind the wheel of a C7 vette I can say that they are such different animals that you cant compare. The Vette is a grin machine for sure and I always have a ball driving them but the difference in refinement and feel between the 2 cars is night and day. Both are terrific cars for the money. I think it depends on what you like better.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Marc your the guy I need to talk to. First, which c7 did you drive and did you get any twisty roads? Does the vette do just about as good on the twisties as the all wheel drive 911? Also kind of stupid question what did you think of the stereo and the way the c7 feels?

POST 6Original post

Bill, I had a Z51 7 speed manual Vette to play with for a while, had all the options. The Vette handles very well but does not give me the confidence that a 2wd 911 does, never mind the all wheel drive one. The feedback is not nearly as good as a Porsche. But it sure was fun in the twisties. The C7 has a nice feel to it, solid and the interior is a huge step in the right direction. Funny thing about Vette's is when I drive one for a long period of time they start to wear on me. I can drive a Porsche all day. MSRP was around 72K I think As far as the stereo I never really bothered with it because the exhaust sound was amazing! Here is the car in my driveway

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dang marc, you are making this hard you say how good the 911 does in the twisties then you post a pic of the color of the vette I ordered. Where is the bang head smiley? Come on you didn't turn on the stereo once?

POST 9Original post

very different cars. New vette = warranty = no headache = big depreciation Old 911 = no warranty = yes headache = very little to no depreciation If you have time to play with the turbo go for it, if it is a daily and need reliable transportation go for the vette. I bet the turbo will be reliable but it could potentially not be so, think about that one.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 10871793

I had the stereo on in the background, really the exhaust in Sport mode is THAT intoxicating. The Vette looks great. drove well and is a huge amount of fun to drive but I am a long time Porsche fanatic so I may be biased.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok here is the deciding factor which one got more chick attention?

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 10871820

Depends on the quality of the chick

POST 13Original post

They may attract different kinds of chicks...

POST 14Original post

And if you get a vette than you need to buy the accessories, gold chains, Members only jacket. Probably going to need some polyester shirts.

POST 15Original post

After a thorough PPI, if you can get the Turbo for a good to great deal, I say go for the Turbo for a year or two. The C7 will be established in the market and you can pry get a better deal then if you desire to try one out. Also, a 997 or 991 may be within your range. GL

POST 16Original post

More guys comment on my 911, more ladies comment on my 'Vette (even young ones). I'm heterosexual and married, so neither one is especially important, but I thought I'd provide the stats. IMO the C7s are going to go to older guys (the people who can pay list for the first couple of years) who are going to garage them between trips to the early bird buffet, so I'd grab a turbo now and find 2-year old C7 later.

POST 20Original post

I have heard that you can get PenFed to finance old cars. Rates are excellent and very competitive as well!

POST 21Original post

Tough room. My prejudice against vettes comes solely from driving/riding in my friend's '01 Euro-spec vette which, when a few months old, creaked and rattled worse than my 10 year old RX300 with 215k on the odo. Apples v. Watermellons, I know and I really like what the C7 represents. You'll have fun with both. TC

POST 22Original post

I agree with getting back into a 911 now, and waiting to get the vet a few years old. I cannot ever bring myself to buy a new car, it makes very little sense to me espescially considering I do all (most) of my own maintenence anyway. For instance, my Wife's X5... when bought was only a few years old, has $25k in options, sticker was close to $70k if i remember correctly. Got it for about $30k with only 30k miles. Base Corvettes depreciate pretty quick overall. I too have my eye on the C7, it seems to be an outstanding car and in certain colors is definitely sharp. If I do get one, it'd be after that big depreciation.

POST 23Original post

+1 on Penfed, they will finance regardless of age. You pay $20 or so to become a member, and then get a great car loan at a phenomenal rate. Also, if we are talking a new C7, aren't we in the 60-70kk range? 60k-70k should get you a better turbo than you are describing I would think...but either way you are right, you're going to get an older one with no warranty and old technology at best (nav, bluetooth, etc., etc.,)...I'm with the group on this one, buy the turbo now, drive it for 18-24 months until the market is flooding with C7's that are coming off lease, and then buy one of those as a CPO if that's really what you want for roughly 2/3rds of what you would be paying today. Wow , that is one wicked looking Vette. I'm a bit surprised that you are not more positive on the C7 Marc. From everything I've read on the C7 it's head and shoulders above the last MY C6, especially when it comes to build quality. In fact, C&D Mag picked the new C7 over a 991 C2S in a recent head-to-head test. Of course, the test was bogus as they spotted the Vette 19 points for affordability yet the Vette won the comparison by only 5 points or so(typical C&D Porsche bashing). It was a serious slap in the face, especially considering it was the very same issue C&D was highlighting the 50th anniv of the 911. How do you pick the new Vette over the new 911 in this issue??? This only serves to validate my decision to cancel my C&D subscription a few years ago. I do like the new Vette though. I'm very tempted to get a car with tons of low end torque and the Vette would scratch that itch perfectly. To get the most out of the 996 you need to really wring its neck(rev it past 5,000 RPM) which is tough to do on the street most of the time. OTOH, the Vette is making serious torque at low RPMs and is ready to rumble at normal street driving engine speeds. Marc, how did the C7 engine feel at low RPM?

POST 31Original post

That's either the least flattering angle to view a C7 or it doesn't look as cool as the last time I saw one. Looks very busy and overstyled, like a Fisker Karma. Anyway, 996TT or C7? I'd take the Porsche every time, but then again, I need a rear seat and I like to drive the car in the winter.

POST 32Original post

Another member called it "over styled" , to me that is spot on. I like it but in some intangible way it's a little Clark W Griswaldish for my tastes.

POST 33Original post

Quotes source posts: 10880606, 10880930

I agree. The best description I heard was that it looked like each member of the C7 design team was allowed to add one unique element to the car. It's like a Mr. Potatohead car with all those grills and vents and angles.

POST 34Original post

if ya wanna impress your neighbors get the po...if ya wanna go torque crazy fast get the vette

POST 35Original post

The C7's I've seen that have a monochrome paint scheme look awesome - exotic even. The multi-color schemes, which unfortunately appear mandatory with some of the option packages, are terrible.

POST 37Original post

Yeah, they definitely undershot the mark with the Camaro lights.

POST 41Original post

This one isn't so hard on the eyes... The mix of loud paint (yellow or red), the black CF roof, all of the black scoops, two different colors of side marker, clear plastic, and chrome seems really over the top to me...I have seen several people complaining on corvetteforum about how little chrome is on the C7, so maybe Chevy understands their market better than I do. To me, the black CF roof was cool about 10 years ago. CF for CF's sake is done.

POST 42Original post

^ that's because the lights are dimmed. I have liked the 911 over the vette since i read my first car & driver around 1990. They featured a 911 turbo and the vette. i always liked the more refined manners of the 911 and the rarity of the tt. Mrs. dallison was a vette fan before she met me, now she loves the p-car brand.

POST 43Original post

Porsche very specifically makes their brand unaffordable to the masses on purpose. I think I read somewhere that they said (I paraphrase) "we don't WANT everyone driving a Porsche" This right there tells you which car you want to get. Even though the C7 is $70k+ the Porsche is $125k+ (new to new). And in peoples minds, this is the comparison they make. You get a different stereotype in each car.

POST 44Original post

I'm just happy there are enough old white guys wealthy enough to pay the first several years' depreciation for either car. Makes life better for me.

POST 46Original post

The most common entry level Porsche is a used Porsche. People don't actually that often cross-shop Corvette and Porsche. You are either a Porsche person or a Corvette person. Tribal. That said, the C7 is a wicked kick in the pants. In those monochrome colors with black wheels it is simply bad. I'd like to drive one, but I don't want one.

POST 47Original post

The Exotic Car 2014 Buyer's Guide has a Ferrari, a McLaren, an SLS AMG MBenz and a C7 on the cover. Corvette=Exotic?

POST 48Original post

The way I see it is a vett is like a rolex (no offense to the rolex owners) and a Porsche is like Breitling. At any business meeting 9 out of 10 wear a rolex where I'm very happy with my breitling even though maintenance is a little more.

POST 49Original post

Quotes source post: 10885798

That's like saying "you're a scalpel person" or "you're a sledgehammer person." The 911 scalpel is an amazing instrument. The Corvette sledgehammer is also amazing. I can do stuff in my old C4 that I can't do in my 911. It usually involves tire smoke and grinning. I don't think you need to be a car person to have a favorite make...but I think a true gearhead can appreciate each marque for what it brings.

POST 50Original post

Quotes source post: 10886070

??? I think I know what you're trying to say but for me it's the oppposite since the Rolex with the custom movement and the fact that it can only be serviced by Rolex dealers would be more on par with the M96 motor. Where as the Breitling(all but the newest ones) with the good ol standard ETA movements can be serviced by many just like an LS motor. That's why I stick to Tudor.

Good points. I stick with my one-watch routine of a Rolex Daytona (Stainless). It's a very similar approach to my 04 996TT daily driver. One car, all purposes.

The Corvettes over the last few years look pretty nice and I'm sure they do every thing very well. Once you have driven Porsches, you're spoiled, and you will never get the same satisfaction driving a Corvette. My wife's had her Boxster since '01 and likes it but says she prefers Corvettes. She has had 2 of them in the past. Both were rattle traps and squeakers with cheezy interiors. I guess that's what women like???

POST 57Original post

It's a tough call, but I'd go with the turbo myself - partly because there are TONS of 'vettes in the Midwest here, so Porsches are a lot less common and therefore a little more unique, esp turbos. I'm not taking anything away from the new c7 though - it's an absolute beast for sure...
