Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If they are still unmovable, use a torque bar and snap them off and replace with new bolts from any hardware store.

Limped home with the engine running sluggish but figured if the computer said "drive to shop" then "drive to house" would be ok.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sitting in the hand car wash this morning and suddenly CEL flashes and message says drive to shop. Limped home with the engine running sluggish but figured if the computer said "drive to shop" then "drive to house" would be ok. Got home and hooked up the scanner. First pass gave 4 codes P0300, P0302, P0303, P0304. Cleared them all then restarted. This time just P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire. I'm assuming that the best course of action is to go ahead and replace all of the coils and plugs. Car is 2004 and just hit 49K miles yesterday. Was planning on waiting for 60K to do plugs but maybe with age on what I'm assuming are the original coil packs and plugs that's the only problem? No other codes detected.
All advice as always is greatly appreciated
TIA
this is "somewhat" common topic and usually after rain or a wash.... when dry, the prob usually goes away. But, coil packs are prone to cracking. If the prob goes away when dry and if not a DD you can prob get away with waiting for the next service... but I wouldnt want to drive like that if you do have cracked coil packs. I would just replaced the bad ones...
Before spending a bunch of money . ... . .How old is your battery? And is your alternator charging fine?
I have seen a new battery fix the problem many time. . .. .but sometimes it is bad coils.
redridge and barn996...thanks for the info...I read the posts about this happening after a heavy rain or car wash, but I wasn't even in the wash yet, just in line...
rglbegl...thanks, I actually have no idea how old the battery is as I've only had the car 18 months
UPDATE: I had a few minutes to spare and jacked up the car so I could take a better look. Didn't see anything with Coil 3 but I did see a noticeable crack in Coil 1 so I bit the bullet and just placed and order with Pelican for new plugs and 6 new coils...early Merry Christmas to me and my Porsche!
Depending on the year of your car 99/2001, you may need the sleeves/tubes as well. I would advice removing the muffler when doing this DIY job. Also check that you didn't leave a plug socket inside after replacing a plug or you will have one hell of a job trying to get a new coil back in place. Ask me how I know? haha. You only need to remove the two large bolts under the rear bumper which are over a sleeve clamp. Hit them with PB Blaster and leave overnight. If they are still unmovable, use a torque bar and snap them off and replace with new bolts from any hardware store. Then the 3 small nuts which face the coils in the wheel arch. No need to remove the longer larger bolts. That done, spin the muffler slightly and drop it down from the front and the whole one muffler will jiggle free. Obviously the rear wheel has to be off. Good luck. Its about 4 hours work. A rubber boat plug remover is good to remove the tubes (if needed).
As a stop gap, you can cover the head of the coil with liquid electrical tape or RTV. But first let the coil dry out and the missfire to go away. I did this to one of mine (RTV) and driven through huge rain storms without any missfire issues.
Technically you can just do this and probably drive it at least another 50k miles. I opted to buy new ones but if I had to do it again, I would just go this route first as I haven't heard of any actual coil internal failures on these motors.
Thank you for your order! Here are some helpful instructions for spark plug replacement which also touches on the tubes as well:
